Period of house construction

According to the  2021 Census, 203,610 occupied houses (10.9%) were built or renovated in the 10-year period since 2011 in Czechia. The proportion of occupied houses built or renovated after 1991 of all houses with the known period of house construction was 33.7%. Between 1946 and 1990, two fifths of the occupied houses were built or renovated for which the period of construction was collected. Roughly one in four houses in Czechia dates back to the period before 1946.

Occupied houses by construction period or reconstruction and regions

According to the results of the 2021 Census, almost every fourth occupied house was built or reconstructed in the last 10 years in Středočeský region, which has the highest proportion of occupied houses built or reconstructed after 1991 (42.5%) of all regions. In Zlínský and Mo-ravskoslezský regions, about half of the completed or reconstructed occupied houses for which the period of construction or reconstruction could be determined were built between 1946 and 1990. Relatively the largest amount of occupied houses from the period before 1920 are located in Liberecký region (19.8%) and Ústecký region (19.3%). On the other hand, in Zlínský region only 5.0% of occupied houses with an ascertained period of construction or reconstruc-tion were built or reconstructed in the same period.
