Mode of transport

For commuters, the most common mode of transport is the car driven by the commuter, which is used by almost 1.9 million commuters, representing 54.8% of all commuters with an identified mode of transport. Another important mode of transport for commuting is public transport, which is used by 531,000 people. Students were most likely to walk to school. This was almost 250 thousand students, which represents 26.6% of students with an identified mode of transport.

In all regions, except Prague, the most frequently used mode of transport for commuting to work was a car driven by the commuter. The share of persons commuting to work by self-driven car in the total number of commuters with an identified mode of transport was 63,5% in Karlovarský region, while in Prague it was only 30%. The dominant mode of transport for commuters in Prague is public transport, which is used by more than 250,000 people, which represents 55.7% of all commuters in Prague with an identified mode of transport.

The most commonly used mode of transport for commuting to school is more varied at the region level than the mode of transport used for commuting to work, which is dominated by the private car. In six regions (Liberecký, Moravskoslezský, Olomoucký, Jihomoravský, Ústecký, Karlovarský) most students walk to school. In Vysočina, Zlínský, Jihočeský, Královéhradecký, Pardubický and Plzeňský regions, the most frequently used mode of transport to get to school is the bus. Vysočina region has the highest share of students using the bus in the total number of all students commuting to school with the identified mode of transport (37.5%). In Prague, public transport dominates (51.4%) and in Středočeský region, most students commute to school as passengers in cars (24.8%).
