15. COMPARISON OF CITIES

This chapter includes comparison of selected cities of the Czech Republic and regional cities.

In the first part of this chapter, we compared the biggest towns of the Czech republic - Praha, Brno, Ostrava and Plzeň. The basic criterion for the selection was population. Another criterion was position among self-governing units (regional towns) and also inclusion of towns in the CZ-NUTS category. Tables 15-1 to 15-5 contains selected demographic data.

In table 15-6, the comparison of all fourteen regional cities can be found. Cities are arranged according to population. Contrary to previous tables, data are presented in 3 basic areas: basic characteristics, population and dwellings.

Analytical indicators that are not used in previous chapters:

  • Index of dependency I - number of children aged 0 - 14 per 100 persons aged 15 - 64
  • Index of dependency II - number of persons aged 65+ per 100 persons aged 15 - 64
