Higher interest only in cars sale and sale over the Internet

Sales in retail trade including the automotive segment after seasonal adjustment decreased in October by 0.8% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 1.0%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales decrease by 0.6%, y-o-y, was contributed to mainly by retail trade alone and partially also lower number of working days.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased in October at constant prices by 0.8%, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 1.0%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales decreased by 0.6%, y-o-y, partially due to a lower number of working days in 2013 (-1). Sale of non-food goods (-1 p.p.) had the biggest influence on the y-o-y drop of sales, while the development in the automotive segment (+0.7 p.p.) had the opposite effect, see Table 2.

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) decreased by 0.3% at constant prices, m-o-m. Year-on-year, working days adjusted sales increased by 5.2%. Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales increased by 2.2%; for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) they increased by 3.9% and for repairs they dropped by 4.3%.

In retail trade including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 1.1%, m-o-m. Working days adjusted sales dropped by 0.7%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales decreased by 1.8%, y-o-y; for non-food goods they decreased by 2.7%, for food by 0.9%, and for automotive fuel by 0.7%.

From main assortment types of stores, the highest y-o-y drop of sales was reported by specialized stores with dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (-8.1%), and with clothing and footwear (-5.3%). Retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores decreased by 3.2%; retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores dropped by 1.4%. After twelve months of continual growth, sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores decreased by 1.0%. A decrease was recorded also by sale of food both in specialized and non-specialized stores (-1.9% and -0.9%, respectively). Sales increased only in the retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (+17.8%).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 99.2%. The highest y-o-y growth of prices was recorded for food and, clothing and footwear, while for most of non-food goods decrease of prices continued, which was the most marked in the assortment of information and communication equipment.
