05.06.2013
Code: r-9101-13

In April, sales in retail trade including the automotive segment after seasonal adjustment decreased by 1.6% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales decreased by 0.2%, y-o-y. The y-o-y increase of non-adjusted sales by 1.5% was contributed to by the development in the automotive segment, sale of non-food goods, and also higher number of working days.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased in April at constant prices by 1.6%, month-on-month. Year-on-year, working days adjusted sales decreased by 0.2%. Year-on-year growth of non-adjusted sales by 1.5% was influenced at the higher number of working days (+1) by an increase of sales in the automotive segment and at non-food goods and automotive fuel; food sale had an opposite effect (see Table 2).

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 1.4% at constant prices, m-o-m. Year-on-year, working days adjusted sales increased by 2.7%. Non-adjusted sales increased by 5.7%, year-on-year; for repair it was by 7.5% and for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) by 5.3%. Sales increase was contributed to by a later change of winter tyres for summer set (due to the weather development), which influenced both their sale and repairs.

In retail trade including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 3.2%, m-o-m; working days adjusted sales dropped by 1.4%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales dropped by 0.3%, y-o-y; for food it was -6.0%, while for non-food goods and automotive fuel they increased (+3.7% and +2.6%, respectively). Food sales in April were partially influenced also by Easter shopping already in March.

The overall decrease of sales was influenced the most by lower sale of food in both non-specialised and specialised stores (-5.6% and -11.6%, respectively). Sales decrease was recorded in sale of dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores (-0.8%) and retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (-0.3%). On the contrary, retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet was successful (growth of sales by 23.7%) as well as retail sale of clothing and footwear in specialised stores (+12.6%), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores (+7.3%), and information and communication equipment in specialised stores (+6.8%).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 99.4%. The highest y-o-y growth of prices was recorded for food and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles, while in most of non-food goods decreasing of prices continued, which was the most marked in the assortment of information and communication equipment.
