Code: r-9101-12

In September, seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade, including automotive segment, increased by 0.4% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales grew by 0.2%, year-on-year. The non-adjusted sales decreased by 3.3%, y-o-y partly also due to the number of working days was by two days lower than in the previous year.

After seasonal adjustment September sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles increased by 0.4% at constant prices, m-o-m. Working days adjusted sales increased by 0.2%, year-on-year. The non-adjusted sales dropped by 3.3%, y-o-y. The development was, inter alia, caused by the lower number of working days (-2 days), which was reflected in reduced sales of assortments responding in sensitive way to year-on-year different number of working days as motor vehicles and their repair, non-food goods, and automotive fuel. On the contrary, sales of food were not essentially affected by the number of working days.

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 2.8% at constant prices, m-o-m. In the year-on-year comparison, sales adjusted for working days increased by 1.5%. The non-adjusted sales dropped by 4.4%. The non-adjusted sales for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) decreased by 3.4% and for the repair of motor vehicles by 10.8%, both y-o-y.

In retail sale including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 0.6%, m-o-m, and sales adjusted for working days by 0.4%, y-o-y. The non-adjusted sales dropped by 2.9%, y-o-y and of them sales for food by 5.9%, for non-food goods by 1.4%, and for automotive fuel by 0.8%.

Of the assortments measured the sales of food in specialised as well as in non-specialised stores contributed most to the overall decline (by 10.1% and 5.6%, respectively). The development in this assortment group is determined, first of all, by sales of enterprises with 100+ employees, which generate roughly 80% of total sales of enterprises selling food and which recorded a drop by 4.4%. Sales also declined in specialised stores with other household equipment (by 3.6%), with information and communication equipment (by 3.5%), and in specialised stores dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (by 2.6%). On the contrary, consumers’ interest, also because supported by discounts, concentrated on purchasing of clothing and footwear (growth by 11.6%) even though the high increase in this commodity was affected by a low initial base. Interests in shopping via mail order houses or via Internet (growth by 3.9%) and in purchasing of goods for culture, sports, and recreation (growth by 2.8%) remained high.

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 101.4%. It was influenced mainly by higher prices of automotive fuel and food. On the contrary, cutting of prices continued in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores.
