04.07.2012
Code: r-9101-12

In May, sales in retail trade including automotive segment after seasonal adjustment increased by 1.0% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales decreased by 0.3%, year-on-year, non-adjusted sales by 2.1%. Growth was recorded only at sale of non-food goods.

After seasonal adjustment sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles increased by 1.0% at constant prices in May, m-o-m; working days adjusted sales decreased by 0.3%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales decreased compared to the corresponding period of the previous year by 2.1%, partially due to a lower number of working days (-1). Only sale of non-food goods grew, which contributed to slackening of the drop of sales in retail trade (see Table 2).

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 0.5% at constant prices, m-o-m; in the year-on-year comparison, both adjusted for working days and non-adjusted decreased (-3.5% and -6.4%, respectively). Sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) decreased by 6.4% and for maintenance and repair of motor vehicles by 6.2%.

In retail sale including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices increased by 1.2%, m-o-m, the same as y-o-y adjusted for working days. Non-adjusted sales stagnated, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales for sale of non-food goods increased by 0.9%, while for automotive fuel and food decreased (-1.8% and -0.4%, respectively).

As for non-food assortment, especially retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet grew (sales growth by 4.0%). Sales were growing also in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores (+2.7%), retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (+2.6%), retail sale of dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores (+2.2%), retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (+1.9), and in clothing, footwear and leather goods in specialised stores (+0.4%). On the contrary, in other retail sale in non-specialised stores the sales decreased by 3.7%. The drop of interest in purchases of food continued in both specialised and non-specialised stores (drop of sales by 1.6% and 0.3%, respectively).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 101.0% and it was influenced mainly by higher prices of automotive fuel and food. On the contrary, the deepest price falls were in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores.
