Code: r-9101-13

In June, sales in retail trade including the automotive segment after seasonal adjustment decreased by 1.5% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales decreased by 1.1%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales decreased by 2.7%, y-o-y. The drop was recorded in both - retail trade and the automotive segment.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased in June at constant prices by 1.5%, month-on-month. Year-on-year, working days adjusted sales decreased by 1.1%. Non-adjusted sales dropped by 2.7%, y-o-y, partially due to a lower number of working days (-1) in June 2013 compared to June 2012. Retail trade contributed more to the drop (-2.5 p.p.) than the automotive segment (-0.2 p.p.), see Table 2.

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) decreased by 0.1% at constant prices, m-o-m. Year-on-year, working days adjusted sales increased by 2.3%. Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales dropped by 0.6%; for repairs sales dropped by 3.6% and for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) they increased by 0.2%.

In retail trade including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 2.2%, m-o-m; working days adjusted sales decreased by 2.6%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales dropped by 3.6%, y-o-y; for the automotive fuel it was by 4.8%, for food by 4.5%, and for non-food goods by 2.5%.

The drop of sales in retail trade was influenced the most by drop of food sale in both non-specialized and specialized stores (-4.0% and -11.3%); within them, enterprises with 100+ employees (to which mainly chain stores belong) recorded sales drop by 3.6%. Drop of sales occurred also in sale of dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores (-7.3%), retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (-5.3%), and retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores (-3.4%). On the contrary, sales increased for retail sale of clothing and footwear in specialised stores (+3.8%), information and communication equipment in specialised stores (+2.0%). A more markedly growing was retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (+18.4%).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 100.1%. The highest y-o-y growth of prices was recorded for food and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles, while in most of non-food goods decreasing of prices continued, which was the most marked in the assortment of information and communication equipment.

For the entire Q2 2013, sales in retail trade including the automotive segment stagnated at constant prices, y-o-y (at the same number of working days in the Q2 2012 and Q2 2013); in the automotive segment sales increased by 2.9% and in the retail trade alone (including sale of automotive fuel) they dropped by 1.2%. Sales for non-food goods increased by 0.8%, while for food and automotive fuel they decreased (-3.6% and -1.8%, respectively).
