Retail Trade - October 2010
Retail sales did not make retailers happy in October
In October, seasonally adjusted (SA) sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased month-on-month by 0.3% at constant prices and increased by 1.0% in the year-on-year comparison. The y-o-y decrease of seasonally non-adjusted sales by 0.7% was influenced mainly by decrease of sales in retail sale in non-specialized stores and sale of automotive fuel; on the contrary, favourable development in automotive segment prevented a deeper fall.

With seasonal, calendar and working day adjustment sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles decreased in October by 0.3%, at constant prices, m-o-m, and increased by 1.0% in the year-on-year comparison (after only working day adjustment by 1.2%). Seasonally non-adjusted sales decreased by 0.7%, y-o-y, partially due to the lower number of working days (-1). The biggest influence on the y-o-y decrease came from retail sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-1.0 p.p.) and retail sale in non-specialised stores (-0.4 p.p.), while a positive influence came from the development in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (contribution +0.9 p.p.).
