Highest y-o-y sales growth in the automotive segment for the last three years

In January 2014 sales in retail trade including the automotive segment after seasonal adjustment increased by 1.8% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 6 . 4%, year-on-year, the same as non-adjusted. The y-o-y sales growth was influenced mainly by sale of motor vehicles and non-food goods.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles increased in January 2014 by 1.8% at constant prices, month-on-month; working days adjusted sales increased by 6.4%, year-on-year, the same as non-adjusted sales. The y-o-y growth of sales was contributed to (at the same number of working days in January 2014 and 2013) mainly by sale of motor vehicles and non-food goods, sales for food grew slightly, too (see Table 2).

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 3.4% at constant prices, m-o-m; year-on-year, both working days adjusted and non-adjusted sales increased by 19.7%. Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) increased by 21.4% and for repairs by 13.0%.

In retail trade including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales increased at constant prices by 0.7%, m-o-m, and working days adjusted sales increased by 1.5%, y-o-y , the same as non-adjusted. Sale of non-food goods grew by 3.2%, food sale grew by 0.2%, while sale of automotive fuel dropped by 0.8%.

The fastest growing were sales in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (+18.0%) and in specialised stores of computer and communication equipment (+15.8%). The overall sales increase was also contributed to by clothing and footwear (growth by 6.8%) and retail sale of other household equipment (+1.8%). On the contrary, consumers were less interested in purchases in specialised stores with dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (-3.1%), and cultural and recreation goods (-0.8%).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 100.9%. For most of non-food goods a decrease of prices continued, which was the most marked in the assortment of information and communication equipment. On the contrary, prices were growing in food stores and retail sale of automotive fuel and clothing and footwear in specialised stores.
