Growth of industrial production slowed down

In April 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 4.7%, year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted industrial production was higher by 0.3%, month-on-month. The value of new orders grew by 8.8%, year-on-year.

In April 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 4.7%, year-on-year; working day adjusted industrial production increased by 7.6%. There was 1 working day less in April 2011 compared to April 2010. Seasonally (as well as working day) adjusted industrial production was higher by 0.3%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y growth of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.1 percentage points, growth by 17.4%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +0.8 p.p., growth +9.5%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +0.6 p.p., growth by 7.0%). The deepest decline of industrial production was recorded in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution -0.8 p.p., drop by 8.3%), manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 11.4%), and manufacture of food products (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 5.3%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 6.5%, y-o-y. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 13.3%. Domestic revenues, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 0.6%, y-o-y.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 8.8%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders grew by 9.3%, while domestic new orders increased by 8.2%. The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +5.3 p.p., growth by 17.0%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +2.0 p.p., growth by 18.1%), and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +1.6 p.p., growth by 17.0%). The value of new orders decreased in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 22.5%), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 1.9%), and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 11.5%).

The average registered number of employees* ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased in April 2011 by 3.9%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in April 2011 by 3.0%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 426.

According to the Eurostat news release published in March 2011, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 increased by 4.6%, y-o-y. Data for April 2011 will be released by Eurostat on 15 June 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

Specific methodological notes: * ) The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
