Industrial production decreased

In May 2012, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 2.4%, year-on-year. Compared to the previous month seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.1%. The value of new orders increased by 4.2%, y-o-y.

In May 2012, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 2.4%, y-o-y. Working days adjusted (WDA) industrial production remained unchanged compared to May 2011. There was one working day less in May 2012 than in May 2011. Seasonally adjusted industrial production (as well as WDA) was lower by 0.1%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y drop of industrial production: manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (-0.4 p.p., drop by 7.4%), manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 12.4%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 7.3%). Industrial production increased the most in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 0.5%), manufacture of food products (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 2.8%), and manufacture of beverages (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 3.0%).

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 1.5%, y-o-y. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 0.5%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 2.4%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 4.2%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders increased by 9.3%, while domestic new orders dropped by 5.3%. The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +6.2 p.p., growth by 19.5%), manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 2.4%), and manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 1.8%). The value of new orders decreased in manufacture of basic metals (contribution -1.3 p.p., drop by 14.3%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 3.1%), and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 21.4%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees remained unchanged in May 2012 compared to the corresponding period of 2011. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in May 2012 by 6.0%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 28 128.

According to the Eurostat news release published in April 2012, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 1.7%, y-o-y. Data for May 2012 will be released by Eurostat on 12 July 2012 at 11:00 a.m.

Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
