Industrial production was growing thanks to cars

In May 2010 seasonally adjusted industrial production was 0.1% higher compared with April 2010 and in the year-on-year comparison it increased by 16.9%. The value of new orders grew by 27.2%, y-o-y.

In May 2010 industrial production increased by 16.9% compared with May 2009. Working days adjusted industrial production increased by 11.3%. May 2010 had two working days more as compared to May 2009. Seasonally adjusted (including working days adjusted) industrial production was 0.1% higher, month-on-month. The y-o-y growth of industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +4.4 p.p., growth by 26.6%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.9 p.p., growth by 25.1%) and manufacture of basic metals (contribution +1.8 p.p., growth by 47.7%). The biggest drop of industrial production was reported for manufacture of beverages (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 14.4%), manufacture of furniture (contribution -0.03 p.p., drop by 2.5%) and manufacture of wearing apparel (contribution -0.02 p.p., drop by 3.4%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 17.3% compared with May 2009. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 27.5%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 50.1%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities raised by 27.2% compared with May 2009 (non-domestic new orders increased by 27.2%). The annual growth of total new orders was most contributed to by manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution +6.0 p.p., growth by 48.5%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution +4.8 p.p., growth by 77.9%) and manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +4.6 p.p., growth by 13.5%). Industrial new orders recorded a drop in manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -1.5 p.p., drop by 44.2%).

The average registered number of employees in enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 4.8% compared with May 2009. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 5.2% compared with May 2009 and reached CZK 25 143.

According to the Eurostat news release published in April 2010, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 increased by 7.8%, y-o-y. Data for May 2010 will be released by Eurostat on 14 July 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
