Year-on-year growth of industrial output slowed down

In October 2010 seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 0.3% compared to September 2010. Industrial production increased by 6.9% compared to October 2009. The value of new orders grew by 12.6%, year-on-year.

In October 2010 industrial production increased by 6.9% compared to October 2009. After working days adjustment (WDA) it increased by 9.6%. There was 1 working day less in October 2010 compared to October 2009. After seasonal adjustment (including working days adjustment) industrial production was lower by 0.3%, month-on-month. The year-on-year growth in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +1.6 percentage point, growth by 9.3%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.4 p.p., growth by 18.1%) and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution +1.0 p.p., growth by 26.3%). The biggest decline of industrial production was recorded in manufacture of food products (contribution by -0.2 p.p., drop by 4.9%), manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 7.3%) and manufacture of beverages (contribution by -0.2 p.p., drop by 9.8%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 7.8% compared to October 2009. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 12.5%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 49.8%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 12.6% compared to October 2009 (non-domestic new orders grew by 11.5%). The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution +2.8 p.p., growth by 22.4%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution +2.6 p.p., growth by 40.0%) and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +2.4 p.p., growth by 22.8%). The value of new orders decreased in the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by -9.5%), manufacture of wearing apparel (contribution by -0.1 p.p., drop by 19.2%), and manufacture of textiles (contribution -0.05 p.p., drop by 2.3%).

The average registered number of employees (excluding agency workers*) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 1.3% compared to October 2009. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 2.4% in comparison to October 2009 and reached CZK 24 767.

According to the Eurostat news release published in September 2010, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 increased by 5.8%, y-o-y. Data for October 2010 will by released by Eurostat on 14 December 2010 at 11:00 a.m.

* The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
