Year-on-year decrease of new orders

In August 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 5.9%, year-on-year, after working day adjustment it increased by 3.5%. Compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 0.6%. The value of new orders decreased by 3.4%, y-o-y.

In August 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 5.9%, y-o-y, working day adjusted (WDA) increased by 3.5%. There was 1 working day more in August 2011 than in August 2010. Seasonally adjusted (including WDA) industrial production decreased by 0.6%, month-on-month. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y growth of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +1.2 percentage point, growth by 7.2%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +1.0 p.p., growth by 12.7%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +0.6 p.p., growth by 6.5%). The deepest decline of industrial production was recorded in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 8.3%), manufacture of food products (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 2.5%), and manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 9.0%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 6.0%, y-o-y. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 16.0%. Domestic revenues, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 2.1%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 3.4%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders grew by 3.3%, while domestic new orders decreased by 14.1%. The y-o-y decrease of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -2.6 p.p., drop by 18.7%), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -1.9 p.p., drop by 6.2%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.9 p.p., drop by 9.9%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.3 p.p., growth by 10.9%), manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.4 p.p., growth by 4.3%), and manufacture of textiles (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 10.4%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased in August 2011 by 3.0%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in August 2011 by 4.8%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 036.

According to the Eurostat news release published in July 2011, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 increased by 3.6%, y-o-y. Data for August 2011 will be released by Eurostat on 12 October 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

Specific methodological notes: * ) The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
