Growth of industrial production and orders continued

In March 2010 seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 0.7% compared with February 2010. Industrial production grew by 10.2% compared with March 2009. The value of new orders grew by 15.8%, y-o-y.

In March 2010 industrial production increased by 10.2% year-on-year, working day adjusted industrial production increased by 8.0%. March 2010 was by 1 working day longer than March 2009. Seasonally adjusted (SA) and working days adjusted (WDA) industrial production increased by 0.7% month-on-month. The y-o-y growth of industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.9 p.p., growth by 24.8%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.3 p.p., growth by 15.9%) and manufacture of rubber and plastic products (contribution +1.2 p.p., growth by 19.3%). The highest drop of industrial production was recorded in manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 8.6%), manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 11.2%) and manufacture of furniture (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 9.7%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 5.0% year-on-year. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 9.9%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 49.2%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 15.8% y-o-y (non-domestic new orders grew by 16.5%). The largest y-o-y increases of new orders in total were recorded in the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +4.2 p.p., growth by 33.3%), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.5 p.p., growth by 11.3%) and manufacture of basic metals (contribution +3.1 p.p., growth by 49.3%).

The average registered number of employees in industrial enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 8.6% compared with March 2009. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 7.4% in March 2010 compared to March 2009 and reached CZK 24 972.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 increased by 3.5% in February 2010, compared to February 2009. The data for March 2010 will be released by Eurostat on 12 May 2010 at 11 a.m.

Industry in the first quarter of 2010

In Q1 2010 industrial production increased by 7.5% y-o-y. The y-o-y growth of industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +5.0 p.p., growth by 35.8%), manufacture of rubber and plastic products (contribution +1.1 p.p., growth by 17.1%) and manufacture of basic metals (contribution +1.0 p.p., growth by 25.0%). The deepest decline of industrial production was in manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (contribution –0.6 p.p., drop by 14.3%), manufacture of furniture (contribution –0.2 p.p., drop by 17.7%) and manufacture of beverages (contribution –0.1 p.p., drop by 6.4%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 2.5% y-o-y in Q1 2010. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 8.2% y-o-y in Q1 2010.

The average registered number of employees in industrial enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 11.0% y-o-y in Q1 2010. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 5.8% y-o-y in Q1 2010 and reached CZK 23 788.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 9.6% y-o-y in Q1 2010. Non-domestic new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 11.3% y-o-y in Q1 2010.
