Industrial production: -4.1%

In January 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 4.1%, year-on-year. Compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted industrial production was the same as in December 2012. The value of new orders decreased by 7.6%, y-o-y.

In January 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 4.1%, y-o-y. After seasonal adjustment, industrial production was on the same level as in December 2012 (month-on-month). The following contributed the most to the y-o-y decrease of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -1.5 p.p., decrease by 8.6%), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution -0.6 p.p., drop by 3.3%), and manufacture of rubber and plastic products (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 6.1%). Industrial production increased the most in manufacture of food products (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 5.4%), manufacture of beverages (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 9.8%), and in other manufacturing (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 6.4%).

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 3.9%, y-o-y, in January 2013. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 4.2%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 3.6%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 7.6%, y-o-y, in January 2013. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 8.7%, while domestic new orders decreased by 5.7%. The y-o-y decrease of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -4.5 p.p., drop by 12.3%), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -2.0 p.p., drop by 23.8%), and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 26.7%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +0.5 p.p., growth by 4.5%), manufacture of paper and paper products (contribution +0.08 p.p., growth by 3.6%) and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.03 p.p., growth by 0.3%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased in January 2013 by 1.2%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in January 2013 by 1.5%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 937.

According to the Eurostat news release published in January 2013, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 1,7%, y-o-y.


Attention:

Starting with the News Release for January 2013, the base for short-term statistics changed. Besides the change in the base period at fixed-base indices (that are newly compared to the average of the year 2010 instead of the average of 2005) also the weighting scheme of the year 2010 was used. In accordance with the methodology of Eurostat, a recalculation back to the year 2009 was made on the new weights, which entailed a revision of fixed-base and y-o-y indices. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
