Industrial production grew mainly thanks to machinery

In September 2010 seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 1.1% compared with August 2010. Industrial production increased by 12.2% compared with September 2009. The value of new orders grew by 14.6%, year-on-year.

In September 2010 industrial production increased by 12.2% compared with September 2009. After seasonal adjustment industrial production was higher by 1.1%, month-on-month. The year-on-year growth in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +2.6 percentage point, growth by 33.0%), with a major influence of machinery for energy industry, manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +2.6 p.p., growth by 14.4%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +2.1 p.p., growth by 27.5%). High year-on-year growth of individual divisions as well as industry in total is influenced also by a low comparison basis from the previous year. The biggest decline of industrial production was recorded in manufacture of beverages (contribution by -0.2 p.p., drop by 9.3%), manufacture of furniture (contribution by -0.1 p.p., drop by 8.6%), and manufacture of food products (contribution by -0.1 p.p., drop by 2.0%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 14.9% compared with September 2009. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 20.6%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 50.3%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 14.6% compared with September 2009 (non-domestic new orders grew by 16.3%). The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution +3.5 p.p., growth by 27.1%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +2.2 p.p., growth by 20.5%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution +2.2 p.p., growth by 30.5%). The value of new orders decreased in the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by -12.8%), and manufacture of wearing apparel (contribution by -0.02 p.p., drop by 2.4%).

The average registered number of employees (excluding agency workers*) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 1.2% compared with September 2009. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 3.2% in comparison with September 2009 and reached CZK 24 116.

According to the Eurostat news release published in August 2010, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 increased by 7.5%, y-o-y. Data for September 2010 will by released by Eurostat on 12 November 2010 at 11:00 a.m.

Industry in the third quarter of 2010: year-on-year changes

In Q3 2010 industrial production increased by 10.2% compared with Q3 2009; WDA industrial production increased by 11.0%. In Q3 2010 there was 1 working day less than in Q3 2009. The y-o-y growth in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +1.9 p.p., growth by 11.5%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.9 p.p., growth by 23.4%) and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +1.8 p.p., growth by 23.9%). Industrial production dropped most in manufacture of beverages (contribution by -0.2 p.p., drop by 7.5%), manufacture of food products (contribution by -0.2 p.p., drop by 2.9%), and manufacture of furniture (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 6.9%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 12.4% in Q3 2010 compared to Q3 2009. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 19.6%.

The average registered number of employees (excluding agency workers*) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 1.6%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 3.5%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 24 300.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 15.6%. Non-domestic new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 16.4%.

* The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
