Industrial production increased

In August 2013, industrial production increased at constant prices by 1.6%, year-on-year. Working days adjusted industrial production increased by 4.2%. Compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted industrial production was higher by 4.7%. The value of new orders increased by 12.3%, y-o-y.

In August 2013, industrial production increased at constant prices by 1.6%, y-o-y. Working days adjusted (WDA) industrial production increased by 4.2%. There was 1 working day less in August 2013 compared to August 2012. Seasonally adjusted industrial production (including WDA) was higher by 4.7%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y increase of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.5% p.p., growth by 26.1%), manufacture of rubber and plastic products (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 4.1%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 2.8%). Industrial production dropped most significantly in mining and quarrying (contribution -0.7 p.p., drop by 14.1%), manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 10.2%), and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 3.6%).

August data have been strongly influenced by company holidays within both July and August. In accumulation for July and August 2013 industrial production increased by 1.9%, y-o-y; working day adjusted industrial production increased by 0.6%.

Sales from industrial activity at current prices increased by 4.8%, y-o-y, in August 2013. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 8.1%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 1.6%.

In accumulation for July and August 2013, sales from industrial activity increased by 4.2%, y-o-y. Direct export sales increased by 7.3% and domestic sales by 1.2%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 12.3%, y-o-y, in August 2013. Non-domestic new orders increased by 15.6%, while domestic new orders increased by 6.4%. The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +11.5 p.p., growth by 42.2%), manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +2.1 p.p., growth by 112.1%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution +0.4 p.p., growth by 5.3%). The value of new orders decreased in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -1.8 p.p., drop by 17.0%), manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 3.1%), and manufacture of textiles (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 6.3%).
In accumulation for July and August 2013, the value of new industrial orders increased by 10.6%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders increased by 12.8%, while domestic new orders increased by 6.5%.

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased in August 2013 by 1.2%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal gross wage increased in August 2013 by 0.8%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 924.

According to the Eurostat news release published in July 2013, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU28 decreased by 1.7%, y-o-y. According to a preliminary time schedule, data for August 2013 will be released by Eurostat on 14 October 2013 at 11 a.m.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
