Year-on-year decrease in production continued

In September 2012 industrial production decreased at constant prices by 7.1%, y-o-y. Working days adjusted (WDA) industrial production decreased by 2.4%. Compared to the previous month seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 0.1%. The value of new orders decreased by 5.2%, y-o-y.

In September 2012 industrial production decreased at constant prices by 7.1%, y-o-y. Working days adjusted (WDA) industrial production decreased by 2.4%. September 2012 was by two working days shorter than the same month of 2011. Seasonally adjusted industrial production (including WDA) was higher by 0.1%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y drop of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -2.4 p.p., drop by 11.1%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution
-0.7 p.p., drop by 8.1%), and manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (contribution -0.6 p.p., drop by 12.4%). Industrial production increased the most in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +0.5 p.p., growth by 19.0%), manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 115.8%, this data is affected by the plant shutdown in the last year), and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 2.3%).

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 2.0%, y-o-y in September 2012. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises dropped at current prices by 5.5%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect exports via non-industrial enterprises, increased at current prices by 1.9%.

In September 2012 the value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 5.2%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 4.1%, while domestic new orders dropped by 7.4%. The y-o-y drop in new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -3.6 p.p., drop by 10.7%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution -1.9 p.p., drop by 21.4%), and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -1.4 p.p., drop by 12.5%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +1.9 p.p., growth by 21.4%), manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +0.8 p.p., growth by 11.7%), and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +0.5 p.p., growth by 37.9%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 0.8%, y-o-y in September 2012. Their average monthly nominal wage decreased by 0.3%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 24 946 in September 2012.

According to the Eurostat news release published in August 2012, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 1.8%, y-o-y. Eurostat shall release data for September 2012 on 12 November 2012 at 11:00 a.m.

Industry in the Q3 2012

Industrial production in the Q3 2012 decreased by 2.3%, y-o-y, working days adjusted industrial production decreased by 1.3%. The Q3 2012 was by one working day shorter than the Q3 2011.

Sales from industrial activities at current prices increased by 0.9%, y-o-y in Q3 2012. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 1.0%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect exports via non-industrial enterprises, increased at current prices by 0.8%.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 2.4%, y-o-y, in the Q3 2012. Non-domestic new orders increased by 4.9%, while domestic new orders dropped by 2.4%.

The average registered number of employees *) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 0.8% in the Q3 2012. In the Q3 2012 their average monthly nominal wage increased by 2.4%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 709.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
