Industrial production decreased, y-o-y

In August 2014, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 5.2%, year-on-year. Working days adjusted industrial production decreased by 2.8%. Compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 3.6%. The value of new orders increased by 1.4%, y-o-y.

In August 2014, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 5.2%, y-o-y. Working days adjusted industrial production decreased by 2.8%. August 2014 had 1 working day less than August 2013. Seasonally (as well as working days) adjusted industrial production was lower by 3.6%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y decrease of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -2.1 p.p., drop by 13.4%), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution -0.9 p.p., drop by 7.6%), and mining and quarrying (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 13.6%). Industrial production increased in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +0.4 p.p., growth by 12.6%), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 12.7%), and manufacture of paper and paper products (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 4.4%).

Data for August were significantly influenced by different fluctuations of company holidays within both holiday months in 2013 and 2014. In cumulation for July and August 2014, industrial production increased by 1.7%, y-o-y.

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 1.5%, y-o-y, in August 2014. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 4.2%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 7.1%.

In cumulation for July and August 2014, sales from industrial activity increased by 6.7%, y-o-y. Direct export sales increased by 14.1%; domestic sales dropped by 0.9%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 1.4%, y-o-y, in August 2014. Non-domestic new orders increased by 0.7%, while domestic new orders increased by 2.8%. The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +1.4 p.p., growth by 20.9%), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution +1.4 p.p., growth by 14.7%), and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +1.3 p.p., growth by 13.1%). New orders decreased in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -2.1 p.p., drop by 6.1%), manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -1.9 p.p., drop by 52.7%), and manufacture of wearing apparel (contribution -0.03 p.p., drop by 5.7%).

In cumulation for July and August 2014, the value of new industrial orders increased by 9.7%, y-o-y. New non-domestic orders increased by 14.0%, while domestic orders increased by 7.5%.

The average registered number of employees *) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased in August 2014 by 1.7%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal gross wage increased in August 2014 by 1.0%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 26 126.

According to the Eurostat news release working day adjusted industrial production in the EU28 in July 2014 increased by 2.0%, y-o-y. According to a preliminary time schedule, data for August 2014 will be released by Eurostat on 14 October 2014 at 11 a.m.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises , and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment within activities of services (CZ-NACE 78.2).
