Industrial production -2.2%, y-o-y

In May 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 2.2%, year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted industrial production was higher by 0.7%, month-on-month. The value of new orders decreased by 6.1%, y-o-y.

In May 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 2.2%, y-o-y. Seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 0.7%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y decrease of industrial production: mining and quarrying (contribution -1.3 p.p., drop by 25.3%), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 2.6%), and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.3% p.p., drop by 15.2%). Industrial production increased the most in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 1.5%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +0.6 p.p., growth by 7.7%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 2.8%).

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 0.5%, y-o-y, in May 2013. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 2.9%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 4.0%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 6.1%, y-o-y, in May 2013. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 8.0%, while domestic new orders decreased by 2.3%. The y-o-y drop of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -4.1 p.p., drop by 11.4%), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -2.1 p.p., drop by 25.7%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.8 p.p., drop by 10.3%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +4.0 p.p., growth by 6.3%), manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 15.4%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 1.8%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased in May 2013 by 1.8%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in May 2013 by 1.1%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 28 391.

According to the Eurostat news release published in April 2013, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 0.8%, y-o-y. Data for May 2013 will be released by Eurostat on 12 July 2013 at 11 a.m.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
