Industrial production slightly dropped, year-on-year

In March 2012, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 0.7%, year-on-year. Compared to the previous month seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 0.3%. The value of new orders decreased by 1.1%, y-o-y.

In March 2012, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 0.7%, y-o-y, which is the first drop since November 2009. The result is influenced by a different number of working days, because in March 2012 there was 1 working day less than in March 2011. After working days adjustment industrial production increased by 1.8%. After seasonal adjustment (including working days adjustment) industrial production was higher by 0.3%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y drop of industrial production: manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 14.7%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 11.4%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 4.6%). Industrial production increased the most in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +2.2 p.p., growth by 11.0%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +0.5 p.p., growth by 5.4%), and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 1.8%).

Sales from industrial activity at current prices increased by 1.1%, y-o-y. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 1.8%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 0.3%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 1.1%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders dropped by 0.5% and domestic new orders were lower by 2.2%. The y-o-y drop of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -2.1 p.p., drop by 16.9%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.9 p.p., drop by 10.1%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 3.3%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +2.7 p.p., growth by 8.6%), manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 3.9%), and manufacture of textiles (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 4.0%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased in March 2012 by 0.3%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in March 2012 by 2.4%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 26 557.
Industry in the first quarter of 2012

In Q1 2012 industrial production increased by 2.2%, y-o-y; working days adjusted industrial production increased by 0.9%. There was 1 working day more in Q1 2012 compared to Q1 2011.

Sales from industrial activity at current prices increased by 5.9%, y-o-y, in Q1 2012. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 8.4%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 3.5%.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 8.0%, y-o-y, in Q1 2012. Non-domestic new orders increased by 10.4%, while domestic new orders grew only by 3.6%.

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased by 0.6%, y-o-y, in Q1 2012. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 4.4%, y-o-y, in Q1 2012 and reached CZK 25 655.

According to the Eurostat news release published in February 2012, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 1.8%, y-o-y. Data for March 2012 will be released by Eurostat on 14 May 2012 at 11:00 a.m.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
