Producer price indices - September 2012

The biggest y-o-y price growth of agricultural producers for the latest thirteen months

In September 2012 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices increased by 3.1%, market services prices also grew by 1.3%. Industrial producer prices and construction work prices stayed both unchanged.
In comparison to September 2011, prices of agricultural and industrial producer prices increased by 10.3% and 1.7%, respectively. Prices of construction works and market services were lower by 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices in total went up (+3.1%). Prices of crop products rose by 4.0% as a result of higher prices of industrial crop (+8.9%). Furthermore, prices of cereals increased (+3.8%). Prices of potatoes fell (−10.3%), fruit (−5.1%) and vegetables (-7.9%). Prices of animal products increased (+1.9%) after five months. Prices of eggs went up by 5.0%, prices of pigs for slaughter and poultry were also higher by 4.6% and 2.7%, respectively.

Prices of industrial producers remained stable in total. Prices rose in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+1.0%), thereof ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+7.9%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+2.2%). Prices increased in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+1.9%) and ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+0.5%). Prices went down in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-1.3%), ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’
(-1.2%) and ‘transport equipment’ (-0.7%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged, construction material input prices stayed fell by 0.4%

Market services prices in the business sphere increased by 1.3%. Prices of advertising and market research services increased by 11.9%. In contrast, financial intermediation, except insurance fell by 0.1% and also freight transport services prices decreased by 0.2%. Market services prices in total excluding advertising services remained unchanged.

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 10.3% (+4.6% in August). Prices of crop products grew by 18.0%, primarily prices of oil plants increased (+14.7%), cereals (+19.4%) and vegetables (+12.8%). Prices of potatoes were higher after twelve months (+4.8%). Prices of fruit went down by 6.3%. Animal products prices increased by 1.2%. Price of eggs grew (+32.4%), prices of pigs for slaughter increased as well (+17.1%). On the increase were also prices of cattle for slaughter (+12.9%), poultry (+3.5%). Prices of milk decreased by 12.7%.

Industrial producer prices gained 1.7% (+1.9% in August). The total level was significantly influenced by the growth of prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+13.3%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+8.5%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+3.2%), thereof ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+15.7%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+6.8%).
Prices went down in ‘basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (-2.6%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (-2.2%), of these in ‘coal and lignite’ (-6.3%) and on the other hand went up in ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’ (+22.8%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (+4.3%) increased the most, prices of ‘durable consumer goods’ (-0.8%) decreased only.

According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.4% (the same as in August). Construction material input prices were up by 0.6% (+0.9% in August).

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 0.5% (−0.9% in August). Decreasing were prices in advertising and market research services (−2.4%), architectural and engineering services (−2.8%) and telecommunication services (−1.0%). On the increase were prices of freight transport services (+0.7%) and financial intermediation, except insurance (+3.4%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 0.2% (−0.3% in August).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – August 2012*

According to the Eurostat News Releases industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 1.0% in August (+0.3% in July), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Denmark (+2.9%), the United Kingdom (+1.8%) and Finland (+1.7%). Prices increased in Austria (+0.7%), the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany (+0.5% all) and Poland (+0.4%). Prices remained stable in Belgium, Hungary and Malta. There is none price decrease in the EU27 countries.

EU27 producer prices rose by 2.7% in August (+1.4% in July), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Bulgaria (+7.1%), Greece (+6.8%) and Cyprus (+6.7%). Prices rose in Slovakia (+4.2%), Poland (+3.3%), the Czech Republic (+1.9%), Germany (+1.6%) and Austria (+1.1%). The only decrease was recorded in Sweden (-0.5%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
