Growth of agricultural and industrial producer prices slow down

In May 2011, compared with the previous month, agricultural and industrial producer prices grew by 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively. Prices of market services increased by 0.2%. Construction work prices stayed unchanged.
In comparison to May 2010, agricultural and industrial producer prices were higher by 31.5% and 6.2%, respectively. Prices of market services were 1.2% up. Construction work prices decreased by 0.3%.

Monthly changes

Agricultural producer prices increased by 0.6% in total. Prices of crop products increased by 0.2%. Higher were prices of cereals (+1.2%), oil plants (+1.5%) and fruit* (+5.5%). Prices of potatoes (-1.7%) and vegetables (-31.1%) fell. Prices of animal products increased by 1.0%, higher were prices of pigs for slaughter (+4.8%), poultry (+1.8%), cattle for slaughter (+0.7%) and milk (+0.4%). In contrast, prices of eggs decreased (-11.9%).

Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.5% (+0.8% in April). The pace of growth was influenced primarily by the price increase in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+1.6%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+1.4%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (+2.7%). Firstly since October 2010, prices went down in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-2.2%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged; construction material input prices increased by 0.3%.

Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 0.2%, affected by a 0.8% growth of prices in advertising and market research services and computer programming, consultancy (+0.5%). Prices of financial services, except insurance and pension funding decreased by 0.2%. Market services prices in total excluding advertising services increased by 0.1%.

Annual changes

Agricultural producer prices were 31.5% up (+31.8% in April). Prices of crop products grew by 55.1%. Considerable increases were registered for prices of potatoes (+106.4%), cereals (+85.4%), oil plants (+54.3%) and fruit (+43.5%). After ten months of continuing growth prices of vegetables decreased (-5.0%). Prices of animal products grew (+8.5%), due to higher price of milk (+14.2%). On the increase were prices of poultry (+10.6%), pigs for slaughter (+5.9%) and cattle for slaughter (+4.6%). Prices of eggs were down (-25.8%). The considerable y-o-y growth was influenced particularly by lower comparative basis from the year of 2010.

Industrial producer prices gained 6.2% (+6.4% in April). After eight months of the uninterrupted acceleration of growth, was recorded the deceleration. Price level was markedly influenced by the price increase in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+9.9%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+11.6%) and ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+21.7%). Price went down in ‘Computer, electronic and optical products’ (-3.5%) and ‘transport equipment’ (-3.4%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+9.3%), the decrease was recorded only in ‘capital goods’ (-0.3%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices were 0.3% down (-0.4%s in April). Construction material input prices were 2.9% up (+3.8% in April).

Market services prices in the business sphere were 1.2% up (+1.1% in April). Increasing were especially prices in advertising and market research services (+7.4%). On the increase were prices of postal and courier services (+3.6%), freight transport (+1.3%) and financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+2.9%). Lower prices were recorded in rental and leasing services (-5.9%), insurance services (-2.4%) and telecommunication services (-0.8%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased by 0.3% in total (the same as in April).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2011**

According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 1.0% in April (+1.2% in March), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Latvia (+4.6%), the United Kingdom (+1.8%) and the Netherlands (+1.4%). Prices rose in Germany (+1.1%), Poland (+1.0%), the Czech Republic (+0.8%) and Slovakia (+0.4%). For Austria, data are not available for April. The only decrease was observed in Sweden (-0.5%), while prices remained stable in Malta.

EU27 producer prices rose by 7.8% in April (+7.5% in March), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in the United Kingdom (+13.1%), the Netherlands (+11.7%) and Bulgaria (+10.7%). Prices rose in Poland (+9.4%), the Czech Republic and Germany (+6.4% both) and Slovakia (+3.1%). For Austria, data are not available for April. There is none y-o-y price decrease in EU27 countries.


* M-o-m price index development reflects, among others, even changes in weighting structure of fruit and vegetables.
