Producer price indices - December 2013
Price increase of industrial producers continued
In December 2013 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices grew by 2.5%. Prices of industrial producer were higher by 0.8%. Construction work prices stayed unchanged. Prices of market services were lower by 0.6%. In comparison to December 2012, prices of agricultural producer decreased by 4.3%. Prices of construction works and market services prices were both lower by 0.7% and 1.4%, respectively. Prices of industrial producer went up by 1.7%.
In comparison with the year 2012, on average for the whole year 2013 prices of agricultural producers and industrial producers were both higher by 4.5% and 0.8%, respectively. Prices of construction works and market services were both lower by 1.1% and 1.5%, respectively.
Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices went up by 2.5%. Prices of cereals increased by 1.5%, as well as eggs (+3.0%), milk (+3.5%), oil plants (+4.3%) and fruit (+10.9%). Prices of pigs for slaughter
(-2.4%), poultry (-3.2%) and potatoes (-3.8%) decreased.
Prices of industrial producers went up by 0.8% m-o-m. Prices were higher particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+4.7%), ‘chemicals and chemicals products’ (+3.1%) and ‘transport equipment’ (+1.3%). Prices rose primarily in ‘parts and accessories for motor vehicles’, which are traded largely in the euro. At the weakening the Czech crown against the euro by 2.2%, their prices increased by 1.8%. Prices also rose in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.1%). Prices were lower in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-0.3%) and ‘textiles, clothes, leather and leather products’ (-0.2%).
According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged and construction material input prices grew by 0.5%.
Market services prices in the business sphere fell by 0.6%. Prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ went down by 7.8%. On the increase were prices of ‘employment services’ (+5.5%). Market services prices excluding advertising services went up by 0.1%.
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices went down by 4.3% (-5.2% in November). Prices of crop products fell by 11.5%, thereof cereals (-21.0%) and oil plants (-14.8%). Higher were prices of potatoes (+59.1%), fresh vegetables (+9.6%) and fruit (+5.0%). Prices of animal products went up by 6.4% due to increasing prices of milk (+21.1%). On the decrease were prices of poultry (-3.0%), cattle for slaughter (-4.8%) and eggs (-19.5%).
Industrial producer prices gained 1.7% (+0.7% in November). Prices rose the most significantly in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+3.5%) and ‘transport equipment’ (+5.1%). Prices increased in ‘parts and accessories for motor vehicles’ by 6.9% (due to the weakening of the Czech crown against the euro by 8.4%), on the other hand, prices went down in ‘motor vehicles’ (-0.6%). Prices rose in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+2.0%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+1.1%). Prices were higher in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.2%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (+10.6%). Prices went down the most in ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-19.5%). Prices decreased in ‘basic pharmaceutical products’ (-3.8%) and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-1.0%).
Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘energy’ (+3.0%) and ‘capital goods’ (+2.6%) increased the most, year-on-year.
According to an estimate, construction work prices went down by 0.7% (-0.8% in November) and construction material input prices grew by 1.0% (+0.5% in November).
Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 1.4% (-2.0% in November). On the decrease were prices of ‘telecommunication services’ (-21.0%), ‘storage’ (-18.1%), ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-2.1%) and ‘legal and accounting services’ (-1.3%). Increasing were prices in ‘advertising and market research services’ (+8.7%) and prices of ‘postal and courier services’ (+8.3%). Prices of ‘employment services’ grew by 6.0%. Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 2.2% (-2.4% in November).
Producer prices in 2013
In comparison to 2012, agricultural producer prices in 2013 were higher by 4.5% (+3.8% in 2012) on average. Prices of crop and animal products grew by 5.1% and 3.8% respectively. Prices of cereals (+5.0%), fresh vegetables (+23.4%), potatoes (+54.7%) were higher. Prices of oil plants were lower by 1.1%. Among animal products price increases were recorded in milk (+7.8%), poultry (+7.1%) and pigs for slaughter (+2.6%). Decreasing were prices of eggs
(-20.0%).
Prices of industrial producers increased in the year 2013 on average by 0.8% year-on-year (+2.1% in the year 2012). Prices went up in ’water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services’ (+5.7%), ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+3.6%), ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+2.8%) and ‘transport equipment’ (+1.5%). Prices went down in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-4.4%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-1.5%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (-1.3%).
According to monthly estimates, construction work prices went down by 1.1% y-o-y (-0.7% in 2012 after the specification). Construction material input prices stayed unchanged on average for the whole year 2013 (+1.1% in 2012).
Market services prices in the business sphere were lower by 1.5% (-0.6% in 2012). Decreasing were prices of ‘telecommunication services’ (-14.4%). Prices in ‘warehousing and support services for transportation’ decreased by 7.2% (thereof ‘storage’ went down by 16.6%). Prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ fell by 2.4%. On the increase were prices in ‘advertising and market research services’ (+4.2%), ‘postal and courier services’ (+3.8%) and ‘financial services, except insurance and pension funding’ (+1.5%). Market services prices excluding advertising services were lower by 1.9% (-0.2% in 2012).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – November 2013*
According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices decreased by 0.1% in November (-0.5% in October) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were registered in Estonia (-1.8%), Hungary (-1.3%) and Denmark (-1.1%). Prices went down in Slovakia (-0.7%), Poland (-0.2%) and Germany (-0.1%) and remained stable in Austria. The largest increases were observed in the Czech Republic (+0.8%), France (+0.5%) and the Netherlands (+0.3%).
Industrial producer prices went down by 1.0% in November (-1.1% in October) in EU28, year-on-year. The largest decreases were observed in Bulgaria (-4.0%), the Netherlands (-3.4%) and Belgium (-2.7%). Prices went down in Slovakia (-2.0%), Poland (-1.6%), Austria (-1.5%) and Germany (-0.7%). The highest increases were recorded in Estonia (+8.7%), Romania (+0.9%), Ireland (+0.8%) and the Czech Republic (+0.7%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
