Prices of producers dropped m-o-m

In May 2013 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices fell by 1.8%, industrial producer prices went down by 0.3%, construction work prices fell by 0.1% and also market services prices were lower by 0.9%.
In comparison to May 2012, prices of agricultural and industrial producer prices increased by 8.0%, and 0.3%, respectively. Prices of construction works and market services prices were both lower by 1.2% and 1.8%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were lower by 1.8%. Prices of fruit fell by 7.7% as well as eggs (-5.8%), poultry (-2.2%) and cereals (-1.8%). Prices of cattle for slaughter and oil plants went down both by 1.7%. Prices of fresh vegetables grew (+29.8%), potatoes (+1.7%) and milk (+0.9%).

Prices of industrial producers went down by 0.3% m-o-m. Prices decreased in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-2.4%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-1.1%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (-0.3%). Prices went up in ‘textiles, clothes, leather and leather products’ (+0.4%) and ‘transport equipment’ (+0.3%), thereof ‘parts and accessories for motor vehicles’ (+0.6%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices fell by 0.1% and construction material input prices went up by 0.1%.

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 0.9%. On the decrease were prices of telecommunication services (-10.8%) and prices of advertising and market research services (-0.6%). In total excluding advertising services decreased by 0.9%.

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 8.0% (+12.7% in April). Prices of crop products grew by 13.4%, primarily prices of potatoes increased (+34.2%), fresh vegetables (+22.9%), cereals (+20.1%), and oil plants (+6.9%). On the decrease were prices of fruit (-10.0%). Animal products prices increased by 1.6%. Price of poultry grew (+8.4%), prices of milk increased as well (+3.5%, for the first time after thirteen months). On the increase were also prices of cattle for slaughter (+3.1%). Prices of eggs went down by 20.4% and also pigs for slaughter (-0.8%, for the first time after twenty-one months).

Industrial producer prices gained 0.3% (+0.5% in April). The significant influence on the total price level had higher prices in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+3.5%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+3.8%). From ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’, prices increased primarily in ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+19.3%), ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (+14.0%) and ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (+13.4%). Another price decreasing in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-8.8%) influenced the most the total price level. Prices went down in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-2.0%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ (-1.3%).
Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (+1.8%) increased the most.

According to an estimate, construction work prices went down by 1.2% (the same as in previous month). Construction material input prices went down by 0.6% (-0.5% in previous month).

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 1.8% (-0.7% in previous month). On the decrease were prices of telecommunication services (-16.4%), storage (-12.8%), freight transport services (-1.8%) and prices legal and accounting services (-1.4%). Increasing were prices in advertising and market research services (+6.2%) and prices of financial intermediation, except insurance (+3.1%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 2.1% (-1.2% in April).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2013*

According to the Eurostat News Releases industrial producer prices in the EU27 decreased by 0.7% in April (-0.2% in March), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, prices dropped the most in the United Kingdom (-1.5%), Belgium (-1.4%), Greece and the Netherlands (-1.3% both). Prices decreased in Poland (-0.7%), the Czech Republic (-0.5%), Austria (-0.3%) and Germany (-0.2%). Prices increased the most in Latvia (+1.1%), Denmark (+0.4%), Estonia (+0.2%), Cyprus and Slovakia (+0.1% both).

EU27 producer prices decreased by 0.2% in April (+0.6% in March), year-on-year. The highest decreases were observed in Greece (-2.4%), Poland (-2.1%) and Sweden (-1.7%). Prices fell in Austria (-1.1%). Prices rose in Slovakia (+0.8%), the Czech Republic (+0.5%) and Germany (+0.1%). The highest increases were recorded in Estonia (+11.3%) and Romania (+4.9%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
