Prices of the majority of producers decreased month-on-month

In August 2011, compared with the previous month, prices of agricultural producers fell by 3.0%. Prices of industrial producers and construction work decreased both by 0.1%. Prices of market services stayed unchanged.
In comparison to August 2010, agricultural and industrial producer prices were higher by 16.4% and 5.7%, respectively. Prices of market services were 0.9% up. Construction work prices decreased by 0.6%.

Monthly changes

Agricultural producer prices fell by 3.0% in total. Prices of crop products decreased by 6.0%, lower were prices of cereals (-7.9%) and potatoes (-22.3%). Prices of vegetables* and fruit* increased (+8.3% and +4.0%). Prices of animal products increased by 1.0%, higher were prices of eggs (+13.6%), pigs for slaughter (+1.3%), cattle for slaughter (+0.6%) and milk (+0.3%). Prices of poultry decreased (-0.5%).

Prices of industrial producers fell by 0.1%. Prices went down the most significantly in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-0.6%), ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-1.1%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (-0.5%). After eleven months of growth, prices dropped in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-0.2%), particularly in ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-5.6%). Prices went up in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+3.4%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non metallic mineral products’ (+0.2%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices and construction material input prices decreased by 0.1% and 0.3%, respectively.

Market services prices in the business sphere stayed unchanged. Price growth was recorded in advertising and market research services and real estate services (+0.1% both). Prices of financial services, except insurance and pension funding decreased by 0.1%. Market services prices in total excluding advertising services also stayed unchanged.


Annual changes

Agricultural producer prices were 16.4% up (+23.6% in July). Prices of crop products grew by 24.7%, due to higher prices of cereals (+44.4%) and oil plants (+41.6%). The prices of fruit were higher (+1.4%). The prices of potatoes were almost at the level of last year (+0.1% growth). In contrast, prices of vegetables decreased (-31.0%). Prices of animal products grew (+7.6%), due to higher price of milk (+12.1%), poultry (+10.2%), cattle for slaughter (+5.1%) and pigs for slaughter (+0.2%). Only prices of eggs were down (-1.8%). The considerable y-o-y growth was influenced particularly by lower comparative basis from the year of 2010.

Industrial producer prices gained 5.7% (+5.4% in July). Prices increased primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+22.1%), ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+9.4%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+5.3%). Prices fell only in ‘computer, electronic and optical products’ (-2.5%) and ‘transport equipment’ (-1.3%), y-o-y.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+9.1%), y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices were 0.6% down (same as in July). Construction material input prices were 2.2% up (+2.7% in July).

Market services prices in the business sphere were 0.9% up (+1.0% in July). Increasing were especially prices in advertising and market research services (+6.4%). On the increase were also prices of financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+3.5%), postal and courier services (+3.0%) and freight transport services (+1.7%). Lower prices were recorded in rental and leasing services (-6.1%), insurance services (-2.4%) and telecommunication services (-0.3%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased by 0.3% in total (+0.4% in July).


Industrial producer prices in the EU – July 2011*

According to the Eurostat News Release industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 0.4% in July (no change in June), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were observed in Cyprus (+2.0%), Lithuania (+1.4%) and Hungary (+1.2%). The largest decreases were recorded in Denmark (-0.8%), Belgium (-0.4%) and Sweden (-0.3%).
Prices decreased in the Czech Republic (-0.1%), remained stable in Slovakia and rose in Poland (+0.5%) and Germany (+0.7%). For Austria, data are not available for July.

EU27 producer prices rose by 7.0% in July (+6.8% in June), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in the United Kingdom (+12.6%), Lithuania (+10.7%) and Latvia (+9.0%), Prices rose in Poland (+7.0%), Germany (+5.7%), the Czech Republic (+5.4%) and Slovakia (+2.0%). For Austria, data are not available for July. There is none y-o-y price decrease in EU27 countries.

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
