Industrial producer prices grew thanks to metallurgy

In May 2010, agricultural and industrial producer prices increased both by 0.7% and market services prices by 0.1%. Construction work prices decreased by 0.1%.
In comparison to May 2009, agricultural producer prices, construction work prices and market services prices were lower by 1.2%, 0.2% and 1.8%, respectively. Industrial producer prices increased by 1.5%.

Monthly changes
Agricultural producer prices increased by 0.7% in total. Prices of crop products grew by 1.6%. Higher were prices of potatoes (+4.6%) and fruit (+7.2%), prices of vegetables fell (-16.0%). Prices of animal products decreased by 0.2%. Decreases were recorded for prices of cattle for slaughter (-1.0%) and eggs (-12.5%). Prices of milk, poultry and pigs for slaughter grew by 1.2%, 0.5% and 0.4%, respectively.
Industrial producer prices increased by 0.7% (like in April). Prices went up the most significantly in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+2,9%). Prices of ‘coke, refined petroelum products’ increased by 1.7%. Prices of ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ decreased moderately.
According to an estimate, construction work prices fell by 0.1%, construction material input prices increased by 1.1%.
Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 0.1%, affected by price increases of 0.5% in advertising and market research services and 1.0% in freight transport. Market services prices excluding advertising services increased in total by 0.1%.
Annual changes
Agricultural producer prices were down by 1.2% (-4.5% in April). Prices of crop products fell by 5.2%, mainly due to price decreases in potatoes (-24.1%), cereals (-9.0%), vegetables (-8.1%) and fruit (-7.3%). Animal products prices increased (+2.9%). Increases were registered for prices of milk (+18.8%). On the decrease were prices of eggs (-0.8%), cattle for slaughter (-2.4%), poultry (-3.3%) and pigs for slaughter (-13.0%).
Industrial producer prices increased by 1.5% (+0.4% in April). The largest influence on the total y-o-y index was owing to the growth of prices primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+39.9%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+17.9%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (+9.5%). Prices went down the most significantly in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-3.9%), of these the most ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-12.9%); on the other hand, prices of ‘dairy products’ went up by 4.4%. Prices of ‘transport equipment’ decreased by 4.3%.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+8.5%); the largest decrease was recorded for ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (-3.6%).
According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.2% (the same as in April). Construction material input prices registered the first y-o-y increase (+0.7%) after 15 months (-1.7% in April).
Market services prices in the business sphere were down by 1.8% (-1.7% in April). Decreasing were prices in advertising and market research services (-8.4%), real estate services (-3.1%), and telecommunications services (-2.0%). Higher prices were recorded in employment services (+14.0%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 0.8%.
Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2010*
According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 1.0% in April (+0.8% in March), month-on-month. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Hungary (+3.0%), Latvia (+2.8%), Bulgaria (+1.9%) and Greece (+1.4%). Prices rose in Germany (+0.8%) and Slovakia (+0.6%). The only decrease was observed in Sweden (-0.4%) and the index remained stable in Malta.
EU27 producer prices rose by 3.7% in April (+1.7% in March), year-on-year. The highest increases were observed in Malta (+16.7%), Greece (+9.1%), the United Kingdom (+8.5%) and Denmark (+6.6%). Prices in Germany rose by 0.5%. The only decreases were observed in Latvia and Slovakia (-4.5% both).

Except for the construction work price indices, the data are finalised. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
