Producer price indices - October 2015

Price increasing of agricultural producers began

In October 2015 compared with the previous month, industrial producer prices were lower by 0.2%. Agricultural producer prices were higher by 3.3%. Construction work prices and prices of market services were both higher by 0.1% and 0.3%, respectively. In comparison to October 2014, industrial producer prices decreased by 3.9% and prices of market services fell by 0.1%. Agricultural producer prices went up by 3.2% and construction work prices were higher by 1.3%.

 

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices grew by 3.3%. Prices of fresh vegetables (+8.7%), eggs (+6.1%), poultry (+4.6%), cereals (+1.7%) and pigs for slaughter (+1.3%) went up. Prices of fruit went down by 4.1%.

Prices of industrial producers went down by 0.2%. Prices fell in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-1.5%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-0.6%). Prices were lower also in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. On the decrease were prices in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-0.2%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (-0.9%) and ‘bakery and farinaceous products’ (-0.4%). Prices rose in ‘mining and quarrying’ (+0.5%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices increased by 0.1% and construction material input prices decreased by 0.2%.

Market services prices in the business sphere rose by 0.3% due to the price increasing of ‘advertising and market research services’ (+4.9%). Prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-0.4%) and ‘rental and leasing services’ (-0.3%) went down. Market services prices excluding advertising services fell by 0.1%.

 

Year-on-year comparison:

For the first time after twenty six months of falling, agricultural producer prices grew by 3.2% (-3.2% in September). Prices of crop products went up by 12.9%. Higher were prices of fresh vegetables (+62.8%), fruit (+29.9%), potatoes (+34.0%), oil plants (+8.5%) and cereals (+3.2%). Prices of animal products went down by 11.5% due to decreasing prices of milk (-22.0%), pigs for slaughter (-7.9%) and eggs (-2.7%). On the increase were prices of cattle for slaughter (+3.0%) and poultry (+1.4%).

Prices of industrial producers went down by 3.9% (-4.2% in September). Prices decreased primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices were lower in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-15.4%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-2.9%). On the decrease were prices in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-1.6%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (-8.7%), ‘other food products’ (-3.2%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-2.6%). On the increase were prices in ‘water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services’ (+3.4%). Prices rose in ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (+1.8%), thereof particularly ‘installation services of industrial machinery and equipment’ (+3.4%).

Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (-9.1%) decreased the most, y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 1.3% (+1.4% in September after specification) and construction material input prices fell by 0.8% (-0.9% in September).

Prices of market services in the business sphere went down by 0.1% (-0.2% in September). Decreasing were prices in ‘information services’ (-2.5%), ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-1.6%), ‘real estate services’ (-1.2%) and ‘insurance, reinsurance and pension funding services’ (-0.9%). On the increase were prices of ‘postal and courier services’ (+6.9%), advertising and market research services’ (+3.8%) and ‘publishing services’ (+3.3%). Market services prices excluding advertising services were lower by 0.4% (like in September). 

 

Industrial producer prices in the EU – September 2015*

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices went down in September by 0.3% (-0.9% in August) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were observed in Ireland (-2.0%), Slovakia (-1.3%) and Lithuania (-1.1%). Prices were lower in the Czech Republic (-0.7%), Germany (-0.4%), Austria (-0.3%) and Poland (-0.2%). Prices rose only in Belgium and Malta (+0.5% both) and France (+0.1%).

Industrial producer prices fell in September by 3.8% (-3.4% in August) in EU28, year-on-year.

Prices decreased in all Member States, the most in Lithuania (-10.5%), Greece (-8.8%) and the United Kingdom (-8.4%). Prices went down in Slovakia (-5.4%), the Czech Republic (-4.2%), Poland (-3.0%), Austria (-2.5%) and Germany (-2.0%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
