Y-o-y prices in industry and agriculture still in decline

In June 2014 compared with the previous month, prices of agricultural producer decreased by 1.4% and prices of market services by 0.4%. Industrial producer prices and construction work prices remained stable. In comparison to June 2013, prices of agricultural producers and industrial producer prices were lower by 2.8% and 0.2%, respectively. Higher were construction work prices by 0.5% and prices of market services by 1.0%.


Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices decreased by 1.4%. Prices of cereals (-0.7%), milk (-1.1%), potatoes (-5.0%) and eggs (-5.2%) were lower. Prices of fresh vegetables (+22.2%), fruit (+3.8%) and pigs for slaughter (+3.3%) increased.

Prices of industrial producers remained stable m-o-m in total. Prices went down the most significantly in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-0.6%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (-2.6%) and ‘beverages’ (-1.1%), on the other hand prices in ‘preserved meat and meat products’ rose by 0.8%. Prices were lower in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-0.5%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-0.3%). Prices rose more markedly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+1.2%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged and construction material input prices rose by 0.3%.

Market services prices in the business sphere went down by 0.4% due to the price decreasing of ‘advertising and market research services’ (-4.3%). On the increase were prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (+0.5%). Market services prices excluding advertising services rose by 0.1%.

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices went down by 2.8% (-0.7% in May). Prices of crop products fell by 11.6%. Lower were prices of potatoes by 17.9% (for the first time after twenty-one months), cereals (-14.7%), fresh vegetables (-9.8%) and oil plants (-1.7%). Vice versa, higher were prices of fruit (+4.0%). Prices of animal products went up by 8.6% due to increasing prices of milk (+17.4%). Prices of eggs were higher for the first time after fifteen months by 7.7%. On the decrease were prices of cattle for slaughter (-1.2%) and poultry (-4.1%).

Industrial producer prices decreased by 0.2% (-0.1% in May). The price decreasing in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-8.7%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (-4.8%) had the significant influence on the total price level. Prices remained stable in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’. Prices fell primarily in ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-13.0%), ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-10.8%) and ‘prepared animal feeds’ (-8.2%). Prices increased in ‘dairy products’ (+5.6%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+3.0%). Prices rose in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+4.2%) and ‘transport equipment’ (+4.0%), thereof ‘parts and accessories for motor vehicles’ (+5.4%). Prices were higher in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+2.1%).
Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘energy’ (-4.6%) only decreased, y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices increased by 0.5% (like in May) and construction material input prices grew by 1.0% (+0.8% in May).

Prices of market services in the business sphere rose by 1.0% (+0.4% in May). Increasing were prices in ‘postal and courier services’ (+8.2%), prices of ‘financial services, except insurance and pension funding’ (+3.0%), prices of ‘insurance services’ (+2.8%) and prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (+2.3%). On the decrease were prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ (-2.0%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased by 1.3% (+0.6% in May).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – May 2014*

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices decreased in May by 0.1% (like in April) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in prices were observed in Lithuania (-1.5%), Latvia (-1.0%) and Hungary (-0.8%). Prices were lower in Germany, Austria and Poland (-0.2% all), remained stable in the Czech Republic and were higher in Slovakia (+0.4%). The highest increases were in Estonia (+1.6%), Denmark (+1.0%) and Spain (+0.9%).


Industrial producer prices went down in May by 0.9% (-1.1% in April) in EU28, year-on-year, with the largest decreases observed in Belgium and Lithuania (-4.8% both) and Cyprus (-4.3%). Prices were lower in Slovakia (-3.7%), Austria (-1.2%), Poland (-0.8%), Germany (-0.7%) and in the Czech Republic (-0.1%). Prices increased only in Greece (+1.1%), Romania (+0.8%), Sweden (+0.7%), Estonia and Ireland (+0.5% both).

Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
