Producer price indices - September 2023
All producer prices increased m-o-m
Agricultural producer prices rose by 1.7% month-on-month (m-o-m) and were 13.4% lower year-on-year (y-o-y). Industrial producer prices went up m-o-m (+0.3%) and were higher y‑o-y (+0.8%). Construction work prices were higher m-o-m (+0.2%) and y-o-y (+3.7%). Service producer prices in the business sphere grew m-o-m (+1.2%) and rosey-o-y (+5.1%).
“Prices in agriculture rose by almost 2% month-on-month after seven months of declines, in year-on-year comparison they continued in the decrease by more than 13%. Prices in industry increased by less than 1%, year-on-year. Construction work prices, according to an estimate, went up almost by 4%, year-on-year, and service producer prices in the business sphere rose up more than 5%,” noted Vladimir Klimes, head of Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of CZSO.
Agricultural producer prices increased by 1.7% m-o-m. Rising were prices of potatoes (+29.0%), poultry (+5.1%), fresh vegetables (+1.1%) and oilseeds crops (+0.9%). Prices of fruit (-12.3%), pigs for slaughter (-3.8%) and milk (-1.2%) dropped. Y-o-y agricultural producer prices were lower by 13.4% (-16.4% in August). Prices in the crop production fell by 17.9%. Decrease was recorded for prices of oilseeds crops (-34.4%) and cereals (-32.2%). Prices of fresh vegetables (+9.6%), fruit (+15.2%) and potatoes (+58.3%) went up. Prices in animal production fell by 5.7%. Decrease occurred in prices of milk (-16.1%) and cattle for slaughter (-1.6%). Increasing were prices of pigs for slaughter (+14.7%), eggs (+11.0%) and poultry (+2.5%).
Prices of industrial producers went up by 0.3% m-o-m. Prices rose particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices were higher in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+2.5%), ‘motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers’ (+0.6%) and ‘fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment’ (+0.7%). Prices fell in ‘food products’ (-1.1%), thereof ‘prepared animal feeds’ (-3.9%), ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-1.2%) and ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-5.6%). Prices decreased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-0.3%) and ‘basic metals’ (-1.2%). Prices of industrial producers rose by 0.8% (in August they grew by 1.8%), y-o-y. Prices went up in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+4.4%), ‘coal and lignite’ (+67.1%), ‘other non-metallic mineral products’ (+9.1%), ‘motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers’ (+3.5%) and ‘food products’ (+0.9%). On the decrease were prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’, ‘basic metals’ (-16.2%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-14.3%), and ‘wood and of products of wood and cork’ (-20.4%). Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (+4.7%) increased the most, y-o-y. Prices of ‘energy’ rose by 3.8%. On the decrease were prices of ‘intermediate goods’ (-5.5%). Prices of industrial producers excluding energy fell by 0.2% y-o-y (in August they went down by 0.1%).
According to the estimate, construction work prices rose by 0.2% and prices of construction material and products input went down by 0.1% m-o-m. According to the estimate, y-o-y construction work prices rose by 3.7% (the same as in August) and prices for construction material and products input fell by 0.1% (in August were higher by 0.2%).
Service producer prices in the business sphere increased by 1.2% m-o-m due to price increase in ‘advertising and market research services’ (+17.2%). Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services rose by 0.2%. Service producer prices in the business sphere went up by 5.1% y-o-y (+5.3% in August). Prices for ‘employment services’ (+22.9%), ‘postal and courier services’ (+13.2%), ‘computer programming, consultancy and related services’ (+7.2%), ‘real estate services’ (+6.8%) and ‘land transport services’ (+3.4%) rose. Price for ‘advertising and market research services’ fell (-1.5%). Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services, were higher by 5.5% (+5.7% in August).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – August 2023 (preliminary data)
According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices increased in August by 0.5% (in July they fell by 0.7%) in EU27, m-o-m. The highest increases were recorded in Ireland (+3.7%), Finland (+2.4%) and Greece (+2.0%). Prices were higher in Austria (+0.7%), Germany (+0.3%) and Czechia (+0.2%) and lower in Slovakia (-0.3%) and Poland (-0.2%). The largest decreases were observed in Romania (-1.3%). Industrial producer prices fell in August by 10.5% (in July they went down by 6.6%) in EU27, y-o-y. The largest decreases were observed in Ireland (-51.2%), Bulgaria (-27.2%) and Belgium (-16.6%). Prices were lower in Germany (-12.5%), Austria (-3.1%), Poland (-2.3%). The highest increases were recorded in Slovakia (+9.8%), Hungary (+7.8%) and Croatia (+4.0%). Prices rose in Czechia (+1.8%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published figures are final data. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carried out on the 9th calendar day of the following month. Then, construction work price indices are made more precise using results of the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 46th calendar day of the following quarter.
