Further decline in prices of oil products

In April 2013 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices fell by 1.6%, industrial producer prices went down by 0.5% and also construction work prices market services prices fell by 0.1%. Market services prices grew by 0.5%.
In comparison to April 2012, prices of agricultural and industrial producer prices increased by 12.7%, and 0.5%, respectively. Prices of construction works and market services prices were both lower by 1.2% and 0.7%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were lower by 1.6%. Prices of eggs fell by 8.7% as well as potatoes (−7.9%), cereals (−0.7%) and oil plants (−0.4%). Prices of vegetables grew (+10.0%), milk (+1.0%), cattle for slaughter (+0.9%), fruit (+0.4%) and poultry (+0.2%).

Prices of industrial producers went down by 0.5% m-o-m. Prices decreased significantly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-3.6%) and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-1.9%). Prices fell in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-0.4% both). From food products, prices went down more markedly in ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-0.9%) and ‘prepared animal feed’ (-1.5%). Prices went up in ‘textiles, clothes, leather and leather products’ (+0.5%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (+0.2%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices fell by 0.1% and construction material input prices went down by 0.3%.

Market services prices in the business sphere increased by 0.5%. Prices of advertising and market research services increased by 11.4% as well as prices of land freight transport services grew (+1.0%). On the decrease were prices of telecommunication services (−5.2%). Market services prices in total excluding advertising services decreased by 0.3%.

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 12.7% (+12.5% in March). Prices of crop products grew by 24.1%, primarily prices of cereals (+26.7%) increased, fruit (+25.8 %), potatoes (+23.8%), and oil plants (+14.0%). Animal products prices decreased by 0.3%. Prices of eggs and milk decreased by 31.4% and 0.7%, respectively. Price of poultry grew (+11.7%), prices of cattle for slaughter increased as well (+6.1%). On the increase were also prices of pigs for slaughter (+0.2%).

Industrial producer prices gained 0.5% (+1.0% in March). The growth of price level was the more significantly influenced by the higher prices in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+3.5%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+3.6%), thereof in ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+19.8%), ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (+15.1%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+3.0%). Prices fell primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-10.2%). Prices decreased in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-1.4%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ (-1.0%).

Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (+1.6%) increased the most.

According to an estimate, construction work prices went down by 1.2% (−1.1% in previous month after refinement). Construction material input prices went down by 0.5% (+0.6% in previous month).

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 0.7% (−0.3% in previous month). On the decrease were prices of storage (−19.8%), telecommunication services (-6.4%), freight transport services (−1.8%) and prices of legal and accounting services (−1.4%). Increasing were prices in advertising and market research services (+9.0%) and prices of programming services (+1.3%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 1.2% (−0.8% in March).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – March 2013*

According to the Eurostat News Releases industrial producer prices in the EU27 decreased by 0.2% in March (+0.4% in February), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were observed in Bulgaria and Greece (-1.1% both) and Spain (-1.0%). Prices went down in Poland (-0.5%), Austria (-0.4%) and Germany (-0.2%). Prices remained stable in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The largest increases were recorded in Estonia (+1.9%) and Ireland (+1.3%).

EU27 producer prices rose by 0.7% in March (+1.3% in February), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Estonia (+11.3%), Belgium (+3.7%) and Ireland (+2.6%). Prices increased in the Czech Republic (+1.0%), Slovakia (+0.8%) and Germany (+0.4%). The largest decreases of prices were recorded in Sweden (-1.4%), Greece (-1.3%), Austria (-0.8%) and Poland (-0.5%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
