Y-O-Y Growth of Prices in Agriculture Continued

Agricultural producer prices (+0.1%), industrial producer prices (+0.5%) and construction work prices (+0.4%) were all higher, month-on-month (m-o-m). Service producer prices in the business sphere stayed unchanged. From the year-on-year perspective, agricultural producer prices (+10.5%), industrial producer prices (+3.8%), construction work prices (+5.5%) and service producer prices in the business sphere (+2.7%) increased.
 

Month-on-Month Comparison

Agricultural producer prices increased by 0.1%. Prices of pigs for slaughter (+8.6%), vegetables (+0.5%) and oleaginous crops (+0.4%) grew. Prices of fruit (-5.9%), eggs (-4.7%), poultry (-2.7%), potatoes (-1.4%), cereals (-0.6%) and milk (-0.6%) fell.

Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.5%. Prices went up the most significantly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Higher were prices in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.7%), thereof ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+2.4%). On the increase were also prices in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+0.4%) and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+1.2%). Prices decreased in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-0.3%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 0.4% and prices of construction material and products input dropped by 0.1%.

Service producer prices in the business sphere stayed unchanged. Prices for ‘management consulting services’ (+0.4%), ‘publishing services’ (+0.2%) and ‘land transport services’ (+0.1%) were all higher. Prices for ‘employment services’ went down by 1.3%. Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services, stayed unchanged.
 

Year-on-Year Comparison

Agricultural producer prices rose by 10.5% (in April they increased by 9.4%). Prices in the crop production grew by 16.0%. Prices of potatoes (+48.6%), vegetables (+24.8%), oleaginous crops (+16.8%) and cereals (+16.4%) went up. Fruit prices dropped by 45.9%. Prices of animal products grew by 5.4%. Prices of pigs for slaughter (+14.3%), milk (+6.6%) and poultry (+2.0%) increased. Prices for eggs (-3.6%) and cattle for slaughter (-3.1%) decreased.

Prices of industrial producers rose by 3.8% (+4.3% in April). Prices were higher primarily in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+8.6%), thereof ‘electricity, transmission and distribution services’ (+11.6%). Prices were higher in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+4.0%), thereof ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+6.6%). On the increase were also prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices grew in ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ (+3.8%), ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (+4.2%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (+7.5%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (+8.1%) were higher especially.

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 5.5% (in April they increased by 5.4%) and prices for construction material and products input grew by 4.1% (in April they increased by 5.2%).

Service producer prices in the business sphere were higher by 2.7% (in April they also grew by 2.7%). Prices for ‘management consulting services’ (+8.9%), ‘employment services’ (+7.8%), ‘insurance, reinsurance and pension funding services, except compulsory social security‘ (+7.3%), ‘advertising and market research services’ (+4.2%), and ‘security and investigation services’ (+4.0%) grew. Furthermore, prices were higher for ‘postal and courier services’ (+3.9%) and ‘land transport services’ (+2.8%). Prices of ‘warehousing and support services for transportation’ were lower by 1.7%. Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services, increased by 2.5% (the same way as in April).
 

Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2019 (preliminary data)

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices remained stable in April (like in March) in EU28, month-on-month. The highest increases were observed in Denmark and Greece (+1.2% both). Prices rose in the Czech Republic and Poland (+0.7% both) and Germany (+0.5%), stayed unchanged in Austria and decreased in Slovakia (-0.1%). The largest decrease was recorded in Belgium (-1.7%).

Industrial producer prices were higher in April by 2.9% (+3.0% in March) in EU28, year-on-year. The highest increase in industrial producer prices was recorded in Romania (+6.7%).

Prices were higher in the Czech Republic (+4.3%), Slovakia (+4.0%), Poland (+2.9%), Germany (+2.6%) and Austria (+1.6%). There were no decreases observed in EU countries.

Industrial producer price indices: 20th calendar day of reference month / 9th calendar day of the following month
Service producer prices in the business sphere: 20th calendar day of reference month / 9th calendar day of the following month
Except for the construction work price indices, the published figures are final data. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carried out on the 9th calendar day of the following month. Then, construction work price indices are made more precise using results of the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 46th calendar day of the following quarter.
