Agricultural producer prices grew significantly

In May 2017 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices went up by 1.7% and construction work prices grew by 0.1%. Industrial producer prices decreased by 0.5% and prices of market services were lower by 0.1%. In comparison to May 2016, agricultural producer prices went up by 12.6% and industrial producer prices rose by 2.3%. Construction work prices and prices of market services were both higher by 1.5% and 0.9%, respectively.

 

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices grew by 1.7%. Prices of pigs for slaughter (+4.1%), fresh fruit (+4.0%), poultry (+2.8%), cereals (+1.4%), milk (+1.3%) and oil plants (+0.4%) went up. Prices of cattle for slaughter (-0.3%) and eggs (-3.6%) went down.

Prices of industrial producers went down by 0.5%. Prices decreased the most in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Lower were prices in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-2.3%), ‘mining and quarrying’ (-1.8%) and ‘transport equipment’ (-0.6%). Higher were prices in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.5%), thereof ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+1.4%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 0.1% and construction material input prices went up by 0.2%.

Market services prices in the business sphere fell by 0.1% due to the price decreasing of ‘employment services’ (-4.2%), ‘advertising and market research services’, ‘telecommunications services’ and ‘computer programming, consultancy and related services’ (-0.1% all). Higher were prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ by 0.3%. Market services prices excluding advertising services were lower by 0.1%.

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 12.6% (+8.6% in April). Prices of crop products grew by 8.4% due to increasing prices of fresh fruit (+12.5%), oil plants (+8.4%) and cereals (+4.4%). Prices of potatoes (-18.9%) and fresh vegetables (-11.5%) went down. Prices of animal products went up by 18.0%. Higher were prices of pigs for slaughter (+30.4%), milk (+26.0%) and eggs (+11.1%).

Prices of industrial producers rose by 2.3% (+3.2% in April). Prices went up in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Higher were prices in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+7.6%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+5.2%), and ‘mining and quarrying’ (+4.3%). Prices rose in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+3.3%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (+8.7%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+7.0%). Prices went down in ‘transport equipment’ (-1.7%) and ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-1.3%).

Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘intermediate goods’ (+3.4%) and ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (+3.3%) increased the most.

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 1.5% (+1.4% in April) and construction material input prices grew by 2.6% (+2.9% in April).

Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 0.9% (+1.1% in April). Increasing were prices in ‘postal and courier services’ (+2.7%), ‘insurance, reinsurance and pension funding services, except compulsory social security’ (+5.3%) and ‘advertising and market research services’ (+1.8%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased by 0.9% (+1.1% in April). 

Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2017*

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices stayed unchanged in April (-0.2% in March) in EU28, month-on-month. The highest increase was recorded in Bulgaria (+1.3%). Prices rose in the Czech Republic and Germany (+0.3% both), Austria (+0.2%) and Poland (+0.1%) and fell in Slovakia (-0.6%).Prices decreased the most in Ireland (-0.9%).

Industrial producer prices were higher in April by 4.8% (+4.6% in March) in EU28, year-on-year. The largest increase was recorded in Belgium (+12.8%). Prices increased in Poland (+6.1%), the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia (+3.2% all) and Austria (+2.6%). Prices went down only in Luxembourg (-2.7%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
