Producer price indices - July 2016

Further drop in prices of petroleum products

In July 2016 compared with the previous month, industrial producer prices stayed unchanged and construction work prices were higher by 0.1%. Agricultural producer prices were lower by 1.2% and prices of market services went down by 1.1%. In comparison to July 2015, agricultural producer prices fell by 6.8% and industrial producer prices also decreased by 4.0%. Construction work prices grew by 1.1% and prices of market services went up by 0.2%.

 

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were lower by 1.2%. Prices of fresh vegetables (-15.7%), potatoes (-8.2%), oil plants (-4.8%), cereals (-3.8%), poultry (-2.3%) and milk (-2.1%) went down. Prices of pigs for slaughter went up by 9.9%.

Prices of industrial producers stayed unchanged. Prices decreased primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices were lower in ‘transport equipment’ (-0.2%), thereof ‘parts and accessories for motor vehicles’ (-0.3%). Higher were prices in ‘mining and quarrying’ (+0.6%). Prices rose in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.4% both), thereof ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+1.9%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices were higher by 0.1% and construction material input prices grew by 0.2%.

Market services prices in the business sphere fell by 1.1% due to the price decreasing of ‘advertising and market research services’ (-12.3%) and ‘architectural and engineering services’ (-1.1%). Market services prices excluding advertising services were lower by 0.1%.

 

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices went down by 6.8% (-6.4% in June). Prices of crop products decreased by 5.8%. Lower were prices of cereals (-11.8%) and oil plants (-5.1%). Higher were prices of potatoes (+9.9%) and fresh fruit (+12.6%). Prices of animal products fell by 8.1% due to decreasing prices of milk (-18.5%), eggs (-9.2%) and cattle for slaughter (-2.6%). Higher were prices of poultry (+1.4%) and pigs for slaughter (+1.6%).

Prices of industrial producers went down by 4.0% (-4.4% in June). Prices fell particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. On the decrease were prices in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-11.6%), ‘mining and quarrying’ (-6.6%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-3.4%). Prices went down in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-4.0%). Prices were lower in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-3.1%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (-10.8%). Prices rose in ‘water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services’ (+1.6%) and ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (+0.7%), thereof ‘installation services of industrial machinery and equipment (+1.1%).

Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (-8.6%) decreased the most, y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 1.1% (like in June after specification) and construction material input prices fell by 1.3% (-1.8% in June).

Prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.2% (+0.3% in June). Increasing were prices in postal and courier services’ (+5.6%), ‘advertising and market research services’ (+2.5%) and ‘architectural and engineering services’ (+0.5%). On the decrease were prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-1.0%) and ‘insurance, reinsurance and pension funding services, except compulsory social security’ (-3.4%). Market services prices excluding advertising services stayed unchanged (like in June). 

 

Industrial producer prices in the EU – June 2016*

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices increased in June by 0.8% (+0.6% in May) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, prices rose the most in the Netherlands (+2.6%), Denmark (+2.5%) and  Spain (+1.8%). Prices went up in Germany and Austria (+0.5% both), Poland and Slovakia (+0.4% both) and in the Czech Republic (+0.3%). Prices decreased only in Cyprus (-0.2%).

Industrial producer prices decreased in June by 2.9% (-3.7% in May) in EU28, year-on-year. Prices fell in all Member States except Malta (+1.0%). The largest decreases were observed in Greece (-7.3%), the Netherlands (-6.2%), Croatia and Cyprus (-4.8% both). Lower were prices in Slovakia (-4.6%), the Czech Republic (-4.4%), Austria (-3.0%), Germany (-2.1%), and Poland (-0.9%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
