Construction output decreased by 0.2%, month-on-month. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 1.7%. Building construction increased by 2.2% and civil engineering construction increased by 0.5%, y-o-y.

The planning and building control authorities granted 6 095 building permits; it was by 10.2% less, y-o-y. “The approximate value of permitted constructions reached CZK 46 billion and it increased by 11.2%, year-on-year. The growth took place both as for new construction as well as modifications to completed buildings. After having subtracted constructions with budgets of over one billion of CZK and having taken into account the price development, we get a 2.5% year-on-year increase,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.

The number of started dwellings increased by 24.6%, y-o-y, and amounted to 3 127 dwellings. “The year-on-year increase in the number of started dwellings was partially influenced by a low comparison basis – last September brought the smallest figure in the year 2022. The growth was mainly thanks to multi-dwelling buildings in Prague and in the Středočeský Region. Family houses continued to decrease, the slump has been persisting for over one year already,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO, explains. The number of completed dwellings amounted to 2 340 dwellings; it was by 25.9% less, y-o-y.

The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50+ employees increased by 1.6%, y-o-y. The average gross monthly nominal wage of those employees increased by 4.6%, y-o-y.

According to data of Eurostat, construction output in the EU27 in August 2023 increased by 0.2%, year-on-year. Buildings decreased by 0.6% and civil engineering works grew by 3.8%. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for September 2023 on 20 November 2023.
