Construction output increased

In June 2014 the construction output grew by 5.1% year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. The planning and building control authorities granted by 1.2% less building permits, y-o-y, and the approximate value of permitted constructions decreased by 1.3%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings jumped up by 45.0%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings increased by 14.7%, y-o-y.

In June 2014 the construction output grew by 5.1% year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. The working day adjusted construction output in June 2014 was by 3.4% higher, y-o-y. June 2014 was by one working day longer compared to June 2013. The seasonally adjusted construction output in June 2014 was by 1.0% higher, month-on-month (m-o-m). The production in building construction increased by 3.9% (contribution +2.7 percentage points (p.p.)), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction grew by 7.6% (contribution +2.4 p.p.), y-o-y. Compared to the same period of 2008, the year of boom, the construction output dropped by 27.0% in the period from this year beginning to the end of June 2014.

The average registered number of employees * ), in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 4.5%, y-o-y, in June 2014. Their average gross monthly nominal wage increased by 4.0%, compared year-on-year, and reached CZK 28 884.

In June 2014 the number of building permits granted decreased by 1.2%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 7 174 building permits. The approximate value of the permitted constructions attained CZK 22.8 billion and decreased by 1.3% compared to the same period of 2013.

The number of dwellings started in June 2014 jumped up by 45.0%, y-o-y, and attained 2 434 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in family houses increased by 6.9% and that of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings soared by 306.0%.

The number of completed dwellings increased by 14.7%, y-o-y, in June 2014 and was 1 752 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in family houses decreased by 4.6%. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings jumped up by 72.5%.

According to Eurostat the WDA (working days adjusted) construction output in the EU28 increased by 3.2%, y-o-y, in May 2014. Buildings increased by 5.0% and civil engineering works fell by 2.5%. According to the preliminary schedule Eurostat shall release the data for June 2014 on 20 August 2014 (at 11:00 a.m.).

Construction in Q2 2014
In Q2 2014 the construction output increased by 4.2%, y-o-y, in real terms. Compared to Q1 2014 the seasonally adjusted construction output was by 1.4% lower, quarter-on-quarter. The production in building construction increased by 1.7% (contribution +1.2 p.p.), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction grew by 9.7% (contribution +3.0 p.p.), y-o-y.

The average registered number of employees * ) in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 5.0%, y-o-y in Q2 2014. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 1.9%, y-o-y and reached CZK 29 603.

In Q2 2014 the number of building orders of construction enterprises with 50+ employees increased by 3.3%, y-o-y; the enterprises received and concluded 11 350 orders in the Czech Republic. The total value of the orders grew by 5.0%, y-o-y and was CZK 39.6 billion. The building construction orders were for CZK 16.0 billion (decline by 21.2%) and those for civil engineering constructions were for CZK 23.6 billion (growth by 35.5%). The average value of a newly concluded construction order was CZK 3.5 million and was by 1.7% higher, y-o-y.
At the end of Q2 2014 construction enterprises with 50+ employees had 14.3 thousand orders contracted (growth by 10.3%) and these orders represented the inventory of still unimplemented construction works of the total value of CZK 162.1 billion (growth by 14.7%).

In Q2 2014 the number of building permits granted dropped by 4.5%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 20 609 building permits. The approximate value of constructions permitted in Q2 2014 accounted for CZK 69.1 billion and increased by 1.0% compared to the same period of 2013.

The floor area of buildings permitted in Q2 2014 was 1 257.1 thousand m 2, which means a drop by 12.8% compared y-o-y. The floor area of permitted residential buildings increased by 13.5%, and that of non-residential buildings dropped by 33.8%.

The number of dwellings started in Q2 2014 grew by 15.9%, y-o-y and accounted for 6 683 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings soared by 66.3%, and that in family houses declined by 0.7%.

The number of completed dwellings in Q2 2014 fell by 12.5%, y-o-y and attained 4 647 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings plummeted by 41.9%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings in family houses dropped by 7.7%.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in construction also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, yet within activities of services (CZ-NACE 78.2) .
