“Construction output in March slowed down its year-on-year growth rate and in the month-on-month comparison, it decreased after more than half a year. The growth was mainly slowed down by building construction, production of civil engineering construction was further increasing with a double digit growth rate,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says. The construction output in March 2022 was by 3.7% lower, m-o-m, in real terms. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 8.2%. Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the production in building construction increased by 6.2%. The production of civil engineering construction increased by 14.7%, y-o-y.

The planning and building control authorities granted 7 910 building permits in March 2022; it was by 6.1% more, y-o-y. The approximate value of the permitted constructions reached CZK 47.1 billion and compared to the corresponding period of 2021 it increased by 28.6%. “The number of building permits granted and the approximate value of the permitted constructions continued to increase primarily as for new constructions. However, a significant increase of construction work and material is reflected in the increase in the approximate value of constructions. Nevertheless, even without that influence, the volume of planned construction was above the level of March 2021,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the CZSO, explains.

The number of dwellings started in March 2022 increased by 44.7%, y-o-y, and reached the number of 4 196 dwellings.
