In 2011, more guests by 5,7% arrived in accommodation establishments

Q4 2011, the number of guests’ overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments increased by 3.1% year-on-year, of which non-residents by 5.3%, on the contrary residents went down by 0.2%. In total, more guests arrived by 5.0%, of which foreigners by 5.7% and residents by 3.9% more.

During the whole year 2011 collective accommodation establishments reported a higher number of overnight stays by 3.5% and the number of guest increased by 5.7%.

The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totalled 7.3 million in Q4 2011; this was by 3.1% more than in the same period of the previous year. As for residents, there was a slight decrease (by 0.2%); on the contrary the number of nights spent by non-residents went up by 5.3%. A year-on-year growth recorded four-star hotels by 8.1%, five-star hotels by 6.0% and hotels garni by 8.5%. In pensions (boarding houses), there was a decrease of the number of overnight stays by 7.4%. Campsites reported a y-o-y growth in number of nights by 30.5%, in particular due to a higher interest in October. Other collective accommodation establishments reported a lower number of overnight stays by 4.5% than a year ago. From regional point of view, the highest increase was shown by accommodation establishments in Liberecky region (by 6.1%); in contrast the highest decrease was in Zlinsky region (by 2.8%).

A total of 2.7 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments; this was 5.0% more than in Q4 2010. The number of non-residents rose by 5.7% and residents by 3.9%. The numbers of guests decreased in one-star and two-star hotels (by 3.8% and 4.9% respectively). Pensions recorded a decrease of interest by clients by 4.8%. From the regional point of view, the highest increase in the number of guests’ arrivals was recorded in Stredocesky region (by 10.4%) and regions Karlovarsky (by 9.1%) and Plzensky (by 9.0%). A decrease of interest was shown by two regions only – Olomocky (by 6.7%) and Pardubicky (by 2.5%).

The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came traditionally from Germany (330 thousand), this was by 2.0% more than year ago. The second largest group was guests from Russia (142 thousand) with y-o-y increase in arrivals by 34.6%. From top ten countries, from which the most foreign guests arrived, a remarkable high increase was shown by tourists from Spain (by 34.8%), Slovakia (by 12.2%) and France (by 11.2%); on contrary guests from Austria fell by 7.6%.

Spa accommodation establishments visited 166 thousand guests in Q4 2011; this was 6.2% up y-o-y, of which the number of non-residents went up by 11.6% and residents by 0.9%. Foreign guest spent in spa establishments by 6.5% nights more; residents on the contrary by 3.9% less. In Karlovarsky region, which was constantly showing the share more than half of the number of arrivals as well as overnight stays in spa establishments, the number of arrivals of non-residents increased by 12.0% and residents by 3.8%.

DEVELOPMENT IN 2011

During the whole year 2011 compared to previous year, there was a higher number of guests by 5.7% and a number of overnight stays by 3.5%. Foreign tourists arrived 7.9% up and their number of overnight stays rose by 8.1%. There were also more residents guests by 3.4% in collective accommodation establishments but their number of nights went down by 1.1%. An average number of overnight stays is in a long term reducing; this was remarkable in 2011 too. Guests spent in average 3.0 nights in surveyed accommodation establishments.

From the point of regions, the highest increase in the number of guests was reported in Capital Prague and Stredocesky region (both equally by 8.2%); a decrease of guests’ interest in accommodation was shown in Pardubicky region only (by 4.4%). In total number of overnight stays, there was the highest growth in Prague and Vysocina region (by 9.0%). In five from fourteen regions guests stayed less nights than in 2010 – in Pardubicky (by 8.4%), Jihocesky (by 3.6%), Plzensky (by 1.8%), Zlinsky and Kralovehradeckem (both by 1.9%).
