Two digit growth of the number of guests from Poland and Slovakia

Q2 2016, the number of guests in collective accommodation establishments increased by 3.1% year-on-year and the number of overnight stays by 1.0%. Occupancy has been continuously growing three years in row.

The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totaled 11.6 million in Q2 2016; this was by 1.0% up than in the same period of the previous year. The number of nights of residents went up by 3.8%; foreign guests in contrast spent year-on-year by 1.4% fewer nights in accommodation establishments, especially in hotel segment by 1.6%. A decrease in the number of overnight stays was recorded for the last time in the beginning of 2014. Different progress came in residents, who in contrary spent by 9.4% more nights in hotels. From regional point of view, the highest number of overnights was recorded in Prague, where 9 out of 10 nights fell upon non-residents. Domestic clients spent the highest number of nights in south Bohemia, Kralovehradecky region and south Moravia.

A total of 4.6 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments during the surveyed period; this was y-o-y increase by 3.1%. Both domestic and foreign guests went up (by 4.5% and by 2.0% respectively). Occupancy of hotels increased by 4.1% y-o-y (3.4 million guests), in pension there were more tourists by 7.4%. On the contrary lower number of guests was reported from camps compared to the previous year by 5.1%. From the regional point of view, the increase was shown in almost all regions of the Czech Republic except from Plzensky region (1.0% down) and Kralovehradecky region (-0.1%) The highest increase was in Vysocina region (by 10.2%), from the point of view of residents in Karlovarsky region (by 17.8%).

The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came as usual from Germany. Germans accounted for one fifth of foreign guests at surveyed establishments (487 thousand arrivals). Compared to the same period of previous year their number went up by 1.6%. The second largest group of foreign guests was visitors from Slovakia (168 thousand) with y-o-y increase by 11.2%. The third place was taken by the United States of America (154 thousand arrivals, y-o-y decrease by 1.8%). A better-than-average interest in accommodation in our republic showed guests from neighboring Poland with y-o-y increase by 18.6%. More guests from China arrived in Q2 2016 for the first time than Russians, by 5.4 thousand. Occupancy from traditional incoming countries like Italy and France decreased, by 0.8% and by 0.6% respectively.

Spa accommodation establishments visited 197 thousand guests in surveyed period; this was 4.5% more than the same period of last year and the number of nights went also up by 5.6% due to domestic clients. The number of domestic guest went up by 7.5%, the number of their overnight stays by 10.8%. On the contrary, the number of nights of non-residents decreased by 3.4%, although the number of their arrivals went up by 0.3 compared to the previous year. In Karlovarsky region, which is constantly showing the share of more than a half of the number of arrivals as well as overnight stays in spa establishments, there was an increase of domestic guests by 17.6% and non-residents by 0.5%. But guests from abroad spent fewer nights in west Bohemian region spa establishments.

An average length of stay in surveyed establishments was 2.5 nights in Q2 2016, which was less than a year ago.
