Published data result from a processing of individual statistical notifications of demographic events in the first six months of 2011. The number of inhabitants is a result of an intercensal balance, which followed the 2001 population census; the current processing census 2011 will be a basis for population balance for the next 10-year period. Further, the census will provide more extra data about population as of 26 March 2011 that cannot be found by annual statistics. On the contrary, the population census cannot provide a data basis for an analysis of demographic processes as not as population forecasts.

The number of live born children was 54.3 thousand in the first half-year of 2011 . The numbers of live born children were lower in all of six months than in the January–June 2010. It supposes to be continuing in the second half-year of 2011. While only the first order children decreased in 2010, the number of second and third order children slightly increased. In the first half-year of 2011 there was less first order children (by 1,957) so as second order (by 1,692), third order (by 601) and the fourth order (by 127) children in the comparison with the same period of the previous year. The decrease was most markedly in the third order (by 9.6%) and fourth order (by 8.6%). The number of first order children went down by 7.2%; the number of second order children went down by 7.3%. The share of live births born outside marriage was continuously increasing; it went from 40.0% in the first half-year of 2010 to 41.3% in 2011. Half of first order children were born to single mother. The most children were born to women aged 29–32 years; women at the age of 28 and 29 dominated among primiparae.

The number of deaths was 52.8 thousand in the first half-year of 2011, by 0.8 thousand lower than in the same period of the previous year. The average age of a deceased was 74.5 years (70.7 for men, 78.3 for women). From January to June there deceased 148 children before 1 year of age; the infant mortality rate counts among the lowest all over the world. Per 10 thousand live births, a total of 27 infants died before reaching the age of 1. The structure of all deceased by causes of death does not change significantly. The half of deaths was caused by diseases of the circulatory system (26.3 thousand), a total of 13.3 thousand of deceased died due to neoplasms and a total of 3.1 thousand due to diseases of the respiratory system.

In the first half-year of 2011 only 16.8 thousand marriages were entered into, by 1.2 thousand down on a January–June period of 2010. The decrease of nuptiality rate is long-term and moreover, large generations of 1970s have crossed the age of high nuptiality. The number of marriages was lower both in the case of marriages of two single persons (which made a 62.9% part) and the re-marriages. The average age of a single groom was 31.3 years and the average age of a single bride was 28.5 years.

The number of divorces was by 1.7 thousand lower than in the same period of previous year. However the divorce intensity is still slightly under 50% . The highest divorce rates were at 2–6 years after wedding. A total of 56.0% of divorcees had minor children.

A total of 19.6 thousand abortions were registered in the first half-year of 2011, by 0.4 thousand lower than on a January–June period of 2010. The number of induced abortion was 12.2 thousand. The number of spontaneous abortions decreased by 0.2 thousand. The stabilization of intensity of abortion is expected. Is obvious that decreasing of total number of abortion is relates to the decreasing number of pregnant women. A total of 5.8 thousand single women and 4.6 thousand married women underwent the induced abortion.

According to the data from the Central Population Register Record of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic the international migration added up a total of 7.8 thousand inhabitants during the first six months of 2011, which was by 2.5 thousand more than in the same period of 2010. The number of emigrants decreased by 7.7 thousand, whereas the number of immigrants by 5.2 thousand only. Among immigrants the citizens of Slovak (1,935 persons), Czech (1,113 persons), Ukraine (1,036 persons) and Russia (943 persons) dominated. The emigrants were mostly people with citizenship of Czech (1,495 persons), Slovak (625 persons) and Germany (220 persons).
