In total 109 381 tonnes of meat were produced at slaughterhouses in Q1 2024; i.e. by 0.8% more, year-on-year. Beef production was the same, year-on-year (0.1%), pigmeat production went up by 2.1%, and poultrymeat production declined by 0.5%. Direct purchases of milk from producers rose by 3.2%, y-o-y.

After three years of decline, pigmeat production increased in Q1 2024 not only in slaughterhouses; the supply of pigs for slaughter from farms to slaughterhouses in the Czech Republic and abroad rose as well," Markéta Fiedlerová from the Agricultural and Forestry Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office, said.

"Preliminary calculated meat consumption also increased in the last quarter. It was influenced not only by higher production in our slaughterhouses, but also by increased imports of both pigmeat, poultrymeat, and beef. Poultrymeat consumption rose the most," Renata Vodičková, head of the Agricultural and Forestry Statistics Unit of the CZSO, added.
