Today, the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) issued the 2020 Statistical Yearbook of the Czech Republic. Since the foundation of an independent Czech Republic, it is already the 28th volume of a continuous edition bringing you data from the economy, demography, and social sphere in the last year processed in detail. For users, the Yearbook is available for free on the website.

The Yearbook comprises 32 chapters; on 808 pages, there are 534 tables in total, of which 26 are brand new. On its pages, readers can learn that the gross domestic product increased by 2.5% in the pre-crisis year of 2019. A significant growth of information and communication continued as well as transport infrastructure development. Strong household consumption helped retail trade, in which sales increased by 4.8%. Inflation increased by 2.8% last year, the most in the last seven years.

“Thanks to statistics, in the future, we will be able to compare how successful our society and economy were during the course of time. Statistical data are also an essential source of information, based on which, for example, necessary help during recovery of the economy can be targeted. In these difficult times, benefit of trustworthy and independent official statistics for the whole society is confirmed,” Marek Rojíček, President of the Czech Statistical Office, said.

As in every year, the Statistical Yearbook of the Czech Republic includes novelties and marked changes in some chapters. Eight new tables were added to the Information Society chapter. They bring, for example, data on usage of Internet of Things by enterprises or information about usage of 3D printing and robotics. There is also information about internet banking and all the more used services of e-health. The chapter on Health brings you further novelties thanks to the inclusion of results of the European Health Interview Survey (EHIS 2019). We can find out, for example, characteristics of self-perceived health status by sex and age group in 2019, information about prevalence of obesity, consumption of fruits and vegetables, or about physical activity by sex and age group. Further novelties in the Yearbook are: data on the average gross monthly wages of teachers or breakdown of university graduates by citizenship, type of studies, and study programme.

The printed form of the Yearbook can be ordered and purchased in the Information Services Department of the CZSO directly in the headquarters of the CZSO.
