Last week the Czech Statistical Office closed a month taking public discussion about the draft Act on Population and Housing Census 2011. The discussion, open to the general and professional public, was part of a pilot project approved by the Government of the Czech Republic launched to test the methodology for public involvement in preparing government legislation.
All the relevant documents concerning the draft Act were available on the website of the Office and in the Information Services Sections in headquarters and in the regions. Those who wished to send their comments and suggestions could do so, using a special e-mail address or postal address.

The comments and suggestions will be considered and used in the preparation of the final draft Act on Population and Housing Census 2011 to be submitted to the Government of the Czech Republic by 30 June 2008. By this date the public should know the detailed assessment of the discussion and its benefit for the draft Population and Housing Census Act.
