New web presentation of the CZSO

21. 12. 2011

The Czech Statistical Office launched on 21 December 2011 its web pages www.czso.cz with the new design. Our aim is to offer statistical data users the best possible orientation on the website and fast access to requested information. The new look is very closely related to a change of the logo and the entire corporate identity of the CZSO and it also results from long-term monitoring of visits of web pages as well as user satisfaction surveys.

New logo
A change of the web presentation, which is visible at first sight, is the new logo of the CZSO. The author of the new logo, Mr Jiří Toman, is the winner of an anonymous public competition, which took place in September 2011. “The principal theme of the logo is the symbol of a column graph, which reflects the name of the institution. Widening of the stripes motive in various applications of the logo reminds the graph with plus and minus values, which in combination with photographs, texts, and other graphic elements always underlines the mission of the CZSO,” Filip Blažek, a member of the judging commission and spokesman of the Czech Union of Graphic Design, says. The new logo will appear during next year on all outputs of the CZSO. Also new colours of all the web pages result from the new logo.

Changes on the website
It is not only the design of the website, what has been changed. Primarily, the structure how information is organized has been modified and underwent simplification.
Remarks and suggestions of users were taken into account when designing the new web pages, which resulted in considerable simplification. The most important element of the front page is a horizontal main navigation menu, which contains six basic sections: Statistics; We publish; Databases, Registers; Classifications; Data collection; About CZSO.

The first three chapters mentioned above focus primarily on statistical data presentation. The chapter Statistics is an overview of 33 basic topics. In each of them, users can find both data and the methodology or analyses. The section We publish offers information about all outputs of the CZSO in various breakdowns; it contains links to all data publications, news releases, time series, analyses, and the like including their archives. The section Databases, Registers is the gate to all databases administered by the CZSO such as the Public Database, the Business Register, the Register of Enumeration Districts and Buildings or the External Trade Database. Via Classifications users can get not only to all classifications and nomenclatures (as it is obvious from the title), but mainly to the Metainformation Database. An important role belongs to Data collection – there is everything necessary for enterprises and also households, which are respondents of statistical surveys.

The section About CZSO comprises, among others, information about the activity of the CZSO and its structure, about public tenders and information for the media.

An animated presentation on the front page brings attention to important actions of the CZSO; the column News offers latest statistical data and information. A novelty of the web presentation on the lower level pages is a context menu on the right side of the page, which provides to the user other information related to the topic.

New changes on the CZSO website are the first phase of changes; next year, also CZSO Regional Offices will undergo redesign of their web pages.
