European Statistics Day 2021

On Wednesday 20 October, statisticians across Europe will have "their day", as the European Statistics Day will be marked on this date. The Czech Statistical Office will join the celebrations again and the public is invited to do the same!

On this day, statisticians want to remind the public of the society-wide importance of official statistics and quality data. Trustworthy and independent official statistics are the key to better data, which then give a better chance for responsible decision-making and therefore better lives for all of us," says Marek Rojíček, President of the Czech Statistical Office.

Visitors to the CZSO’s Prague headquarters can also view an exhibition made up of popular infographics that the Office uses when communicating with the public on its website, social networks or in the magazine Statistika&My (“Statistics and Us”). How many women work in science? Do we shop on-line? What are the odds of having twins? How long do we live? Which country do we visit most often? Who visits our country most often? How much wine do we drink and how many raisins do we eat? You can find out all this and much more from our statistics.

A statistical quiz including ten questions from various areas of statistics will be prepared for visitors on Instagram. The answers will be checked immediately, and a link will then take the visitor to a page where he or she can learn more details about the given issue.

However, you can also follow the activities of the CZSO on Twitter , YouTube or LinkedIn. For those who are really serious about statistics, the Czech Statistical Office also offers inspiring study materials.
