Metadata Metadata I. Metadata system/or systems are inevitable investment into the future of each statistical office. Growing importance of information technologies and at the same time global computerizing being under way increases crucial importance of mutual linkage at all stages in statistical surveys from the very beginning of processing to dissemination of statistical information. Harmonised approach throughout the whole organization is the only possible way for creation of an efficient metadata system. Metadata as integral part of disseminated figures has to fulfil demanding quality criteria such as comparability and user friendly accessibility. Dynamic development of Internet portals, both at national and international levels, stimulates the need for internationally harmonized terminology and application of worldwide or European standards. Mutual technology and methodology linkage will enable automatic updating of the content and extent of disseminated information.
