Prices of agricultural producers grew y-o-y

In September 2010, agricultural producer prices and industrial producer prices increased by 3.5% and 0.3%, respectively. Market services prices grew by 1.2%. Construction work prices stayed unchanged.
In comparison to September 2009, agricultural producer prices and industrial producer prices were higher by 16.4% and 2.4%, respectively. Construction work prices and market services prices decreased by 0.2% and 0.8%, respectively.

Monthly changes

Agricultural producer prices increased by 3.5% in total. Prices of crop products grew by 6.4%, due to higher prices of cereals (+14.9%, particularly wheat). On the increase were prices of oil plants (+8.0%) and potatoes (+9.2 %, particular industrial potatoes). On the decrease were prices of fruit (-16.3%) and vegetables (-3.4%). Prices of animal products increased by 0.4%. Increases were recorded for prices of milk and eggs by 1.3% and 6.5%, respectively. Prices of pigs for slaughter (-1.7%) and poultry (-0.1%) fell. Prices of cattle for slaughter stayed unchanged.

Industrial producer prices increased by 0.3% (-0.4% in August). The growth of prices was caused primarily by the increase in prices of cereals. It had an impact on the rising prices of ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.8%), primarily ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+7.8%) and ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (+5.6%). Prices rose also in ‘mining and quarrying’ and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+1.2% both). Prices decreased more significantly in ‘rubber and plastic products’ (-0.5%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged, construction material input prices decreased by 0.5%.

Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 1.2%, affected especially by price increase of 1.6% in advertising and market research services (+9.4%) and financial intermediation (+3.6%). On the increase were also prices in postal and courier services (+1.7%). On the other hand price decreases were registered in employment services (-1.2%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased in total by 0.3%.

Annual changes

Agricultural producer prices were up by 16.4% (+8.8% in August). Prices of crop products grew by 26.0%. Considerable increases were registered for prices of cereals (+33.7%), potatoes (+48.6%), fruit (+24.7%) and vegetables (+54.7%). Animal products prices grew (+7.1%), due to higher price of milk (+26.7%). On the decrease were prices of poultry (-1.4%), eggs (-7.7%) and pigs for slaughter (-8.3%).

Industrial producer prices increased by 2.4% (+1.8% in August). Prices went up the most in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+24.7%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+10.3%) and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+9.3%). Prices went down the most in ‘transport equipment’ (-3.5%). Prices decreased in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ by 1.0% (-2.1% in August).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+5.6%); the largest decrease was recorded for ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (-2.0%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.8% (-0.3% in August). Construction material input prices were up by 2.2% (+2.4% in August).

Market services prices in the business sphere were down by 0.8% (-1.2% in July). Decreasing were prices in advertising and market research services (-5.8%) and architectural and engineering services (-1.1%). Higher prices were recorded in employment services (+8.3%) and postal and courier services (+3.1%). Prices in freight transport grew by 1.2%. Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 0.1%.

Industrial producer prices in the EU – August 2010*

According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 remained stable in August (+0.2% in July), month-on-month. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases of prices were recorded in Estonia (+1.3%), Bulgaria (+0.7%) and Belgium (+0.6%). Prices rose in Slovakia (+0.2%) and no change was recorded in Germany. Decreases were observed in the United Kingdom (-0.5%), the Czech Republic (-0.4%), the Netherlands (-0.3%) and Finland (-0.2%).

EU27 producer prices rose by 3.9% in August (+4.5% in July), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Malta (+14.3%), Hungary (+10.4%) and Bulgaria (+10.0%). Prices rose in Germany (3.2%). The only decrease was observed in Slovakia (-0.4%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the data are finalised. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
