Industrial production increased, m-o-m

In February 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 5.7%, year-on-year; working day adjusted decreased by 1.6%. Compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted industrial production was higher by 1.6%. The value of new orders decreased by 10.2%, y-o-y.

In February 2013, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 5.7%, y-o-y; working day adjusted decreased by 1.6%, y-o-y. February 2013 had 1 working day and at the same time 1 calendar day less compared to February 2012. After seasonal adjustment (including working days adjustment) industrial production was higher by 1.6%, month-on-month. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y decrease of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -1.9 p.p., decrease by 10.4%), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution -1.6 p.p., drop by 9.7%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 12.2%). Industrial production increased the most in manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 21.4%), other manufacturing (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 12.0%), and manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 9.9%).

Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 6.1%, y-o-y, in February 2013. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 2.9%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 9.3%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 10.2%, y-o-y, in February 2013. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 9.2%, while domestic new orders decreased by 12.0%. The y-o-y decrease of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -5.6 p.p., drop by 15.2%), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -1.0 p.p., drop by 12.8%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.9 p.p., drop by 11.8%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of textiles (contribution +0.05 p.p., growth by 2.4%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased in February 2013 by 1.4%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage decreased in February 2013 by 0.1%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 24 629.

According to the Eurostat news release published in January 2013, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 1.7%, y-o-y. Data for February 2013 will be released by Eurostat on 11 April 2013 at 11 a.m.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
